Only seems like one or two times he hit the target. Most of those explosions look like he's hitting water. The very last one you see the entire area peppered with shrapnel hits, as he definitely hit the target.
-
hmm if those guns could do that to a tank what about a airplane:t ?
-
They'd probably make an inch-thick hole and do nothing. They're designed to pierce armor and explode inside. On a soft target they'd pass right through and probably blow up on the other side (if at all).
-
Those were converted 37mm AA guns. One source I found put the ammo load at 6 rounds per gun for the 37mm's (which looks like what was shot at that first barge), very slow reload times as you can see. Conversion was set at 100 meters, and the gun pods further reduced Stuka's performance.
But it would be fun to play with 37mm armed Stukas.
-
Biggest single problem for the big guns is a lack of targets.
Many of the targets he was shooting at were small watercraft, barge's, etc.
We need a LOT more ships, barges, LST's, landing craft, etc. They should ideally be tied into the strategic support system. Rivers should have barge traffic, small patrol boats, etc.

I just can't wait until I get shot in face by some knucklehead flying one...
Personally, I think it'd be the pinnacle of my AH experience so far:rolleyes:

Now that is a cool film. Great find Ontos :aok
I would hate to be on the receiving end of those rounds
-
think about the poor soul that was on the receiving end of those cannons during WWII if they were ever used in Combat?
Tankers chilling inside at a Supply Point.
Tanker: "High Bogie"
Tanker's buddy: "Dude we are in a tank, as long as we are in this metal box he can't touch us....so let me get some shut eye"
SLAMM. As the stuka pilot pilot misses for the first time.
Tanker's buddy: " WTF was that!"
Tanker: "I think it was a tank with wings shooting at us?!?"
KA-BOOM. The Stuka pilot finishes the job.
"Of course if I was there I would have said the same thing."

try it with the 40mm rounds in a Hurri IID.
i was hunting GV's when a formation of B17s came at me NOE.
i got 2 hits (4 bullets) firing just the 40mms
BOTH passed right through. no damage from what i could see...i laughed RTB'ed and rearmed for more GV's lol

Ok I dont normally do this but
HT CAN WE PLEASE HAVE THAT STUKA
Yeah Sorry eh....
-
I'm not sure about the sounds of those guns though, I believe they used different sounds.
Or did the 37mm's really sound like that? (and I believe WWII guncams didn't have any audio)
The very last one you see the entire area peppered with shrapnel hits, as he definitely hit the target.
I believe that's the Junker's machine guns, you can hear it on the film.
Pilots would often use their (small calibre) machine guns to aim, when they hit the target with MG, they'll fire the BIG ones :)
EDIT: Dang! That's some high water splashes coming from those rounds!
-
That was sweet. I wounder if theres film out there with a Hurrican IID attacking targets?
-
Great find. thx :aok

12 rounds per gun.
