At some point they'll be banning shoes. Once the first person is beaten to death with one.

i carry a loaded gun.

edit, you don't need a 6 inch blade to kill someone, a shorter one will do, you just have to know where to put it.

In 1979 I was flying home on leave from SeaTac to DFW. I had a connecting flight at San Francisco International Airport. While hanging out in the bar I hear my name called to go to the white courtesy phone. I find one, answer and am suddenly whisked off to a small windowless room because I had a knife with a 10 inch blade inside my locked checked luggage. I was active duty at the time and the knife was standard gear bought at my ship's store and was stowed inside my locked seabag.

After a 30 minute interrogation and background check I learned they had no sense of humor. They asked me why I had the knife in my luggage. Was I trying to hijack a flight? I told them they stumbled onto my evil plan. I joined the military went to boot camp, spent 2 years on the Bering Sea to buy a knife on my ship to carry home on leave inside my locked checked luggage so I could claw thru the floor of the plane midflight with my bare hands and break into the cargo area, find the knife among all the other luggage unnoticed by anyone and hijack the plane to Havana.

I was finally allowed to board my connecting flight to Dallas after I took the knife and sealed it in an envelope and wrote my name on it. I took that envelope and placed it inside a cardboard box, sealed and signed it. I put that box inside another box then sealed and signed it. When it was all said and done my knife was inside a 2foot by 3foot box with a rainbow of reflective tape and writing all over it. Yeah, I'd never find that if I wanted to...

I do all the time when Im working. Sometimes when Im not working. Cops tend to only mess with people about that based on where they are and what the person looks like.

I used to get messed with alot more often for carrying a buck knife when I was younger. But the cops always gave it back to me.
Now I carry anythign from a buck knife to large extendable razer knives such as the ones used on 9/11 only a larger version if them and  I dont even get so much as a second look

England however is getting absurd

BTW NJ is going to be following Californias lead and banning the sale of 50 cal rifle ammo.

Logic is, cause " Terrorists can use it to bring down an airliner" or so I heard on the radio.

Yea, that aughta stop em.

God how I loath feel good laws

England - under 2000 gun related crimes per year
USA - 89 deaths per day by firearm

England - 850 murders per year
USA - 26,000 murders per year (one every 22 minutes)

You can scoff at England's view on weapons all you want.

You know facts do not matter with the anti-gun crowd.  Why did you even post such a silly thing?

How are you doing 88, still sore after the wreck?

And we will continue to do so

We also dont have a Queen/King and never will.

Reguardless how the government works there now
I would still much rather have the right to own a weapon now and deal with those statistics.

Then to not have that right and have a King/Queen

BTW You must have either gotten those numbers from an unreliable site or from more then one site containing different numbers whereas you only posted the portions that made your point
Your numbers do not add up

I am well aware of the 6 inch knife thing.

To me this makes little to no sense. Actually they have it backwards.

What they are doing now is making it so you are only allowed to carry a knife if it is concealable.

Where as if you could only carry a kife if it was longer then 6 inches you would have to wear iot in such a way as it would be clearly visable

More feel good laws tthat do next to nothing to prevent anything.

but at least they can say they passed a law

tinman..  suffice it to say that england is not America... thank gawd for that.

No ban of any weapon in england ever reduced homicides there... just as no ban of any weapon here in the states has...  In fact..  adding guns here decreases crime.

Look at it any way you want...  england was just never a very murderous country.. We, on the other hand are.

We are stuck with who we are..  as are they.   The strong and mean will always prey on the weak and defensless...

The law in england would not get rid of a single gun tho if there were no penalties..  if the penalties were light... it would get rid of a couple..  death sentance... most of em.

It is the penalty not the ban that does the work so far as using guns in crime or.. of disarming citizens.

Why not take the best of both worlds... allow all to own guns and carry them (just like the constitution says we have the right to) and then... make very strict penalties for abusing that right?

Best of both worlds... bad guys afraid to arm themselves and good guys able to defend themselves...

course.. the government doesn't like good guys armed any more than it likes bad guys armed... maybe less.

I believe this has been discussed before. http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=183162&referrerid=5405

In the US, the urban poor, typically minorities (and not necessarily racial minorities), have frequently turned to crime to catch up the the mainstream wealth in our "classless" society. In the European immigration days, you had the Italian, Irish and even Jewish Gangs that morphed into the Mafia during the previous bloody, violent insanely profitable drug war (Prohabition). Today you have black and hispanic gangs taking part in our newer, bloody and insanely profitable war on drugs. Get away from the inner city gangland fueled thug culture and the threat from murderous violent crime is virtually nil, even in areas where the percentage of legal gun ownership is extremely high. Even in those urban crap holes, if you are not a gangbanger or a wannabe thug you have little real homicide threat.

95 percent of the US firearm crime occurs in just 5 counties in the country. Each of those counties contains a NYC, LA or Chicago, etc.

Lets look at the top 5 cities from both england and the US in terms of population:

England
London        7,172,091
Birmingham  970,892
Liverpool    469,017
Leeds           443,247
Sheffield       439,866

US
New York     8,213,839
Los Angeles 3,845,541
Chicago        2,842,518
Houston       2,076,189
Philadelphia 1,463,281

England is largely a homogeneous, rural society, that for most of it's history has had a relatively unified "common" population and a fairly rigid class structure that was, largely, accepted by all. But that is changing more towards the multicultural population model found in the US, with groups that don't seem to want to just sit back and be Oiks. From the linked thread:

Quote
The same disparity can be seen in the UK. While the country as a whole has a low rate of murder, there are areas where the murder rate is high. In Glasgow, Scotland, the murder rate is 5.9 per 100,000 (cite). In London, by contrast, it's 2.1 per 100,000 (cite). In the Manchester metro area, it's 10 per 100,000. And in the Manchester neighborhoods of Moss Side and Longsight, and in the Manchester suburb of Hulme, the murder rate is a monstrous 140 per 100,000 (cite)-- which is considerably worse than Washington, DC, America's most murderous city.

and this

Quote
THE number of offences involving firearms in England and Wales has been increasing each year since 1997, according to the Home Office.
Firearms incidents recorded by the police have nearly trebled in eight years.
Provisional figures released last month showed that firearms offences had increased by 5 per cent on last year, to a total of 11,160. There were 4,903 such offences in 1997.
The possession of handguns was banned in Britain that year after the Dunblane massacre. Yet the illegal ownership of handguns is believed to be higher than it has ever been, with nearly 300,000 illegal guns estimated to be in circulation.
The increase in gun crime is linked to gang activity and the illegal drugs trade.
But Chris Fox, the president of the Association of Chief Police Officers, said: “This year has seen a fall in the number of fatalities from 70 to 60, with the use of shotguns down by 13 per cent and the use of handguns down by 8 per cent.
