Title: The Vice President's Fall from Grace
Post by: Hap on March 09, 2007, 02:34:52 PM
Quite a compelling read.

It's not a superfical "bad Dick Cheney" story.

Midway, the bit about Wyoming, from what I've picked up living here for a few years, is spot on.

All this sort of reminds me of the hippies is a very wierd way.  That is cranky idealists (regardless of what their ideals look like) can get so insular, turned in on themselves, that with the right set of events, it all gets very wrong within a decade or so.

Thinking of the neocons also, disaffected hawkish democrats.

Yes they existed before caricature politics became a very damaging art form helped by 24/7 tabloid news needing something to say to lure viewers and bamboozle advertisers.

Then there's the whole Hearst-like spooky side to it all.

http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1597226,00.html

There's the link.

The lesson I take away from it is it's not about knowing the most, or knowing the right thing to do, but if people are willing to submit themselves to the entire political process of checks and balances that characterize the American experiement.

Though I'm very much in favor of knowing the most, and knowing the right thing to do.

Republic or Democracy.  Of course we're a bit of both.  And when the pedulum swings both sides have their weaknesses.

All the Best,

hap

Seriously,

Am I the only one that doesn't drewl and caw over this administration that just thinks this story is a whole lot of hype and very little umph.  Nothing has been proven, just a bunch of assumption based conclusions that get a certain brand of people frothing at the mouth jumping for joy.

I really do not get it.  I don't see the connection.  I don't see the libby thing as grand evidence.  This is grasping at straws here for somthing that assumes to exist to begin with.

Do I think the VP is a great guy.....No.  I agree with many of the initial opinions of the link that he was the safe choice for Bush.  Do I think he's an evil man.....no.  Nothing leads me to that conclusion.

Let's see, Michael Duffy, graduate of a liberal arts college, Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, writing for the Times....

Yeah, I see no partisan politics on his journalism.  :rofl

The writing itself is standard nowadays.  Create contraversy where there is none.  I happens on both sides.  Seriously I don't see the point to this story.

WTF?! Where would a guy go to journalism school, pray tell?

They don't have technical schools for journalism. Of course he went to a liberal arts college. That doesn't automatically assign bias to his writing. It'd be wiser to examine his body of work to determine bias.

I wasn't aware that Cheney had managed to achieve any particular state of grace to fall from. Same old Dick in 2000, same old Dick in 2007. Though, I do believe he would have made a better President than GWB, for what little that is worth.

Or, to be more precise, the Cheney verdict.

Due to one of the best examples of revisionist history ever.

Next time though Hap, keep it up and you're bound to post something interesting.

This reminded me of when GWB was asked who his favorite philosopher is.
