Went to see 300. I thought it was pretty good, but a bit strange. Graphics were excellent, story was good, lots of gratuitous violence and some gratuitous sex. I'd say if you like violent war movies, you will like this. Not for the kids though. Lots of heads getting hacked off.

You had me at gratuitous.
Let the slaughter begin. ;)

Wow. My son went to see it last night too!
Maybe you saw him there
;)

"I'd say if you like violent war movies, you will like this."
In this forum you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't.

I have always liked the story. I admire both of the combatants in that conflict. the persians were a fearsome force during that time. the wiley greeks were clever first at marathon and later at thermopylae. king lionaedes has always been an inspiration to me. I'll go see this film as well.

I think it's horrible that Hollywood can't leave the classics alone. This film in my opinion is horrendous compared to the original. The original was a better story-line, and although this has everyone's favorite 3D graphics (And all of it is), the original just seemed a lot more fun than this one.
Okay guys, you can jump on me now.

someone likes gladiator movies...

You share a perchant for homosexuality and believe wisdom can be gleaned from soppy tarts pretending to have a direct link to the gods?
Interesting role model, but I guess it takes all sorts...

It's not a remake of the original movie. It's an adaptation from a graphic novel which happens to be the same story line. Have you read/seen Frank Miller's graphic novel of it?
You cannot justly compare the two this way. Though they may share the same premise of the origin of the story, it's apples to oranges.

Yea, i ddint see the original, but I think this is loosely based on anything that really happened. Its really tends to the fantastic with a flavor of reality.

I'll see it. I read the paperback book "300 Spartans" when I was a kid. It was about Thermoplae

actually, the original was historically inaccurate, had retarded cold war overtones, and was full of 1960's views on virginity rubbish :lol
it was a fun film, but it was hardly a classic, more propaganda...
this one is adapted from frank miller's graphic novel 300 (creator of sin city) and is very similar in terms of style and brutality :)
unfortunately, it only comes out here on the 23rd, grrrr (been waiting a year for this movie) :furious

Best movie I've seen since, well, Casino Royale... But that was the best movie I had seen for ages up until 300 came out.
It is pure manliness. Sex, gore, standing up for what is right, killing Iranians... I reveled in the political incorrectness and sheer awesomeness of the whole thing. It totally redefines what it means to be a man. If you do not go see this, your testicles will shrivel up and fall off.

but the Spartans were all buttpirates. While killing Iranians does have redeeming values, it is not that redeeming. Brokeback Gladiators.:rofl

after reviewing screenshots and trailers of this movie, I'm not so geeked about it. why do they have to take a great story with huge potential and give it the sin city treatment... ? too bad.
-
That's Hollywood.

They didnt highlight the buttpirate theory, but they did emphasize the 'free man killing persians is necessary for survival' theme.

just saw it. they messed the story up completely but as far as entertainment goes it is acceptable.
