Title: Suggest a pointing device?? (aka need a new mouse)
Post by: JCLerch on March 11, 2007, 06:08:32 AM
Does anyone else keep track of how many Mice they've worn out over the years?  Me, I'm on 4 mice in 20 years, and all of them fail because the left mouse click button stops clicking... (perhaps I'm hard on it, I don't know.. :)

Anyways, I need a new mouse, and after 20 years of looking I still haven't found one that I'd say is "The One "  My current mouse is an MS intellipoint 4.0.  It's ok, but I wore the left click button out (I've read the surface mount switches have a 1 million operation cycle life.. hmm could I really have left clicked 1 million times??  http://www.fridgesoft.de/odoplus.php :D Maybe...

So, like I said, I need a new mouse, or trackball, or magic wand..  Any suggestions????

Thinks I like / need / want in a mouse:

Scroll wheel (or ring?)
At least 2 extra buttons for Copy / Paste foo
Right Handed

I've used alot of mice, including your own one, and I go through one about every 1-2 years.

Currently, I am using a G7 by Logitech... it is wireless but comes with 2 different batteries (so one is always charging/ready to be used), has a button to increase the speed of the mouse right on the mouse itself, a 'back' type button near the thumb, and all the buttons on it (7 buttons total and a scroll roller) are programmable and interchangeable.

It has some other cool abilities and I definitely recommend it... Logitech joysticks on the other hand. *eyeroll*

Speaking of Logitech, the G15 keyboard is nice too, it will give you another 24 programmable macro command keys right on the keyboard with a multifunction LCD screen oin it with tons of other stuff.

Labtec Optical 3 button wheel mouse.

Its optical, so no ball to gum up.
Its 5 years old and still going strong.

Del, have you keymapped commands to these extra buttons/keys to use in aces high? does it work well, if so?

does AH2 recognize the extra 24 macro keys as a seperate device?

am curious........

The keyboard is a completely seperate device, and the macro functions are controlled with the software it came with, so nothing to interfere with AH or your programming software for your sticks.

Oh and the mouse is a laser mouse, and one of thebest on the market.

I'm using a logitech MX-518 and have had very good luck with it . It is comfortable and has enought buttons for me . It has 2 buttons for DPI settings, up/down , it really helps for FP shooters .
