Title: Video problems in AH only when modem connected
Post by: Paxil on October 06, 2000, 10:57:00 PM
I get video flicker problems in AH only when my modem is connected. (Note: everything else runs fine when I'm online) If I enter AH while the modem is not connected... no problems. Modem connected... even when I try offline, I get bad video flicker problems.

System:
AMD Thunderbird 800
SD-11 M-board
GeForce2 GTS (Asus 7700)
128M PC-133
Cheap generic 56K winmodem =(

I tried the latest Asus drivers... and then the latest Nvidea ones... but both had the flicker problems (though is was less annoying on Asus drivers)

Does anyone have any clue?

Thanks in advance

OK... problem solved... turned off V-sync waiting in display driver settings and the flicker is gone!

Leave V-sync on or you're going to get problems. It sounds like your vid drivers, in which case try older sets. Also try cranking up your monitor's refresh rate to above 75Hz. Mine is set at 85Hz and works great.

LEAVE V-SYNC ON!!!!!!!!!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
take the modem icon out of the taskbar...

Dial-up Networking/connection/settings uncheck show icon in the taskbar.

Modem status is not displayed... so far I have found that only disabling V-sync waiting works for me.

Paxil, try turning your modem speed down to 33.6(V.34).  Don't try to run it 56k (V.90)for playing AH.  You'll get a more solid connection at 33.6 which is much better for AH.  Make yourself a second Dial Up connection with slower setting just for playing AH.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Also, let us know if you see any weirdness with V-Synch disabled.  Some folks did a few months ago.

So far everything is fine... is still have V-sync enabled... it is a setting for my card called Disable V-sync waiting... I can check it and leave V-sync on. No flicker... I'm happy.

Asus V7700 GeForce2 GTS with Asus drivers.

After updating the SD-11 bios to NC611, the Asus Video drivers to latest version, reinstalling DirectX 7.0a and updating via 4in1 drivers... I have not locked up a single time. The tearing is still there if I uncheck disable v-synch waiting though
