Interesting video I found on other forum. This cop/sheriff explains silliness of assault weapon ban. Notice it took him 2 minutes to make illegal 'assault weapon of doom' from a legal rifle.

Due to annoying personality, he is on ignore list......I recommend doing same.

How dare you sully the seriousness of the discussion with silly shots of that simple symphony. Shame.
;)

Debonair has degenerated to the level of a 2 year old having a tantrum, he has to show everyone that he's here but has nothing of value to add.

Someone keeps drinking all my scotch, I wonder who it is?

He is the poster child for the ignore feature.

DAMNIT! He's found me out.

No one addressed the presentation Russian showed us.
I think it was very well done. Of course I've known the difference for a long time but if it does any good at all, that officer spent his time well.

Yes, he did a very nice job with his presentation...
Hopefully it won't be wasted, but given the media's track record on the subject... /shrug

What I didn't know but officer showed was that automatics are 1) have not been used in crimes ( at least in that particular area) 2) difficult to modify to make full auto. (I'm skeptical about this one)
Although this video is quite old now...maybe before LA shootout.

The other side isn't very concerned with getting the facts strait. Most anti gun people are like that. Guns are evil and unnecessary to them. The rest is just BS details only “guns nuts” or wacko militia types would care about to them.
This is good stuff for people who are on the fence and do not have a set point of view, but will not have any effect on a single anti gun politician.
Still it was well done an interesting.

Actually Russian, and this very item stuck out to me for some reason, he said they had never found a modified semi-auto to full-auto in the 50,000 some guns they had confiscated over the years. I think that leaves the door open to the possibility that there were some full-autos used in crimes. I would think drive by shootings in gang wars type stuff, or other criminal to criminal type crimes would be where most of those would have been used.
I don't know this for fact, I am assuming that possibility.

The amount of "Automatics used" is VERY SLIM. This is more of a hollywood portrayal, to reinforce the ban.
The Roaring Twenties and prohibition were one thing, but they are RARELY used in crime. I'm sorry but Thompsons aren't used in crimes, nor are Browning B.A.R.'s, but you cannot own em.
I'd love to be able to buy a WWII Thompson SMG. The history of the "purchased" thompson would be enough for me.

It requires a goodly amount of firearms savvy to modify a gun from semiauto to full auto.
Gang-bangers, who commit the lion's share of firearms crime, couldn't modify one in such a manner if their lives depended on it.
Most law-abiding "gun nuts" , like myself, have never modified one nor even attempted to modify one. In my half-a-century on this orb I've never seen one modified to full-auto, and I have seen a LOT of guns.
Thus, most laws to control crime committed by semi-autos modified to fire full-auto are exercises in futility. Most studies I have seen on this subject estimate that less than 1% of all firearms crimes are committed by such weapons.

debonair would like us to think he is too cool for us to get.. I wish that were the case. Unfortunately.. we do get him it is just that there is nothing worth caring about.
I have mixed feelings about the film... I have always enjoyed the fact that the blue guys and gals who fear their fellow man know so little about firearms..
They are learning tho.. in some ways it is good and some ways bad.. they are now focused on any semi auto as evil. This is bad if they succeed but good that it angers even more people against them.

Good video, but you can talk to some folks till you are blue in the face, and they just won't except it.

This is incorrect as far as inability to own the weapons is concerned. You can indeed own a fully automatic weapon. It takes passing a background check and purchasing a $200.00 transfer stamp for each purchase and or sale. It may take over a year to get the background done by ATF as they tend to drag their feet particularly with a person who has repeatedly passed the same investigation in the past.
A buddy of mine has his own class 3 weapons up to and including a M-2 .50 cal. with both a tripod ground mount and a pedestal mount that he put on his WW2 vintage Jeep. His collection of class 3 weapons makes my entire collection of more mundane weapons look small. My wife got a real kick (no pun intended) when we took her out shooting and she got to fire about a half dozen fully auto weapons for the first time.
If you are serious about owning a Thompson you should investigate the process. It is possible, just tedious and time consuming not to mention a bit pricey. Once you get it you'll also find out it's pricey to feed the critters too. ;)

A bit pricey as in $20,000 or so for a Thompson. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

Thompsons are up there but there are less expensive choices.
