non-matte on non-matt? You mean glossy finishes for aircraft that had a shine?
We have that. It's called a material.txt file. It's skin specific.
Only the "Generation 1" skins don't use it because they're so out of date. Planes like the B24s, B17s, P51s, P47s, etc etc, all the "new" looking aircraft have this file, which can be adjusted based upon the skin being made.

if you wouldnt mind...will you please give me an example of a specific plane and its skin that is particullarly non matte so i can look at it?

A lot of Kev367's painted Spitfire skins have material files that have almost no reflection and the paint looks flat. Then, check one of his bare metal Spits, and look at the way the sun reflects off the tops of the wings.
Best example I can think of--Same plane, same skinner, two different looks.

Most of my 109Es have reduced reflection. I left a little on there just for light highlights (because even on flat/matte surfaces you'll still get some highlight due to sun direction). My B17G has highly increased reflection levels as well. The 190s have relatively low "shine" levels as well.
EDIT: And stoney's got a good example. 2 skins, same skinner.

Lavochkins had a layer of varnish over the original external base paint colour. It was almost gloss like.
Winter greys from the factory like wise.....
Cockpits were Matt
Winter white wash (field applied) was of course matt and as it faded would have revealed bits of the gloss underneath.

The LAs, the f6fs, the a6ms, the hurricanes, the f4fs, the typhies, the c2s, the yaks, and the vast majority of the aircraft in this game are too old to use the material.txt file. Only the "modernized" ones use it.

didnt the planes used to be glossy in ah1?
-
Yes and no. They used to have a default gloss level applied to them. When you reskinned them you couldn't change that level (it was just set for whatever the default skin was). Like P47s that had a gloss shine even though they had camo instead of BMF, same for B17s and P51s. I think it was a problem with older P38s as well.
