Anyone find it very comical that more Americans celebrate this day, even more so than most National American Holidays? lmao....
Anyways, i'm trying to put together a T-shirt to wear tomorrow.....I need help with the phrase...I'm thinking something like, "I may not be Irish, however, I'm really good at screwing". HAHA....If anyone has any suggestions please throw them out...
Anyways, whats everyone doing tomrorow? Myself, Snowy drinking in Bean town! WHOOO

My wife went to NYC with her sisters the last couple of years.
She is astounded at how many people from Ireland make the trip to NY to celibrate St Patricks day
-
It is more of a religious holiday in Ireland it seems. I was there in Dublin on St. Pat's a number of years ago and except for the parade and the drunk tourists it seemed like it was no big deal. I am not surprised that many come to the States to celebrate.
-
Does anyone know where to buy green hair dye? Preferably wash out dye, but if not, I guess I could do spray...Any ideas where I could find it though?
-
No, I'm not one bit surprised. Half because my teachers 5th-8th grade used to cram it into our skulls every year and the other half because more people celebrate cinco de mayo in America then they do in Mexico.
Your question about hair dye, look in the beauty section at wal mart or a beauty supply shop.
-
Just gotta make sure it says "wash out dye"...Imagine if I ended up getting my hair stuck green for a month or two! hahaha
FIRED

I try to ignore it as much as possible. Here in the US, like new years eve, it's just an excuse to drink to excess. I spent enough time dealing with drunks to want to have anything to do with them any more.

Sally's Beauty Supply. they've got one in every town. And they have anything & everything in there
(this is TMom, not Skizzy. I'm on his computer, and don't want y'all to think that he knows about the hair stuff ~ that's my arena ;) I just don't know if this will show as being posted by TMom or by Skizzy)

i think i heard somewhere that the first st. patty's was in the US.
-
St Patrick's day is a holiday dedicated to drinking. What's not to celebrate?
-
In thinking about it. I think its the most popular because its the most inclusive.
Nobody cares if you are Irish or not on St Paddys day.
Its like on that day everyone celibraates the wearing of the green. "EVERYONE is Irish C'mon and join the party!"
Its the rare person who doesnt think the sound of bagpipes is cool
There are no more "fun" drinking songs to sing then Irish songs
The Wearing of the Green
Clancy Lowers the Boom
Wild Rover
Come out Ye Black And Tans
All For Me Grog (http://cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/4irishwhiskey-08.m3u)
And its a rare man who doesnt like "Danny Boy" or
"An Irish Lullaby"

Or a good ol' limerick...
The was an old man from Madrid...

Then there is one of my personal favorites
THE NIGHT PADDY MURPHY DIED (http://www.soundclick.com/util/streamM3U.m3u?ID=3287643&q=Lo)
LOL While I have always wanted a Viking style funeral
I would be quite honored if my demise were celebrated with a wake such as this
Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget
Some of the lads got roarin roarin' drunk, some still not sober yet.
As long as a bottle was passed around everyone was feelin' gay
Then O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play
-Chorus-
And that's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy
That's how they showed their honor and their pride
They said it was a sin and shame and winked at one another
Every drink in the place was full, the night Pat Murphy died
-Chorus-
Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner, pourin' out her grief
When Kelly and his friends, came roaring down the street
They crept into an empty room and a bottle of whiskey stole
They placed that bottle on the corpse to keep the liquor cold
At three o'clock in the morning, some dirty blue-eyed scamp
He wrote upon the coffin lid, "Herein lies a tramp,"
They stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn't tell the time
And at a quarter after three, Sure they argued it was nine.
And everyone got merry, they didn't care for prayer
Mrs. Murphy said she'd wait 'til all the gang were there
Of all the sights I've ever seen that made me shiver with fear
They took the ice right off the corpse, just for to chill the beer
Now everything was doin' fine, there was no ill at all
'Til Finnegan told Callaghan, "You've got an awful gall."
I thought that that might start a row, and sure enough it did
For Callaghan had carved his name upon the coffin lid
Then the fight got fierce & strong, everyone was in
Someone knocked the whiskers off poor old Darby Flynn
And Dirty Andy Burke was there, now whadda ya think he done?
He placed the corpse upon its head, in the corner just for fun
Someone hollered for the cops; they busted down the door
They jumped upon ol' Paddy's back and they laid him on the floor
They knocked him twice behind the ears and they kicked him on the head
When they jumped up from his back, sure they found out he was dead
Now Mrs. Murphy started in, battled with them cops
She chased 'em, every one of them; she chased 'em several blocks
A lovely time was had by all, eighteen in court were tried
For having caused a riot on the night Pat Murphy died
At eight o'clock in the morning, the procession left the house
And everyone but poor ol' Mrs. Murphy was out soused
They stopped on the way to the churchyard at the old Red Door Saloon
They staggered in at nine o'clock and didn't come out 'til noon
Someone asked ol' Finnegan if anyone had died
"Lou," says he, "I'm not quite sure, I just came for the ride."
They started out for the graveyard, all holy and sublime,
But found out when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind.

There is some controversy as to what snakes symbolized in the metaphor.

There's a song on an old Don Mclean cassette that I had years ago.
Has a great song on it of a young Irish man going to work in London and singing back to his girl in Ireland. Sweet song, perfect for the Day.... I just can't find it anywhere.
a bit of the lyric goes as this:
"You remember young Denny of course, well he's down here on the force.
As we were talking on the strand, young Denny stopped all traffic with a wave of the hand.." It's a song of the Irish man writting back to his girlfriend in Ireland.
It's a last song on a cassette on I think "Greatest Hits" Nicely done, slow and with Heart.
Wish I could find the cassette... I used to play it alot on St Patricks Day...shared with others.
I miss the song and wish I could find it again.

Easy, I have it on my HD Mac.
It is Mountains O'Mourne
That would be "You remember young Diddy McClaren, of course". :aok

Oh, Mary, this London's a wonderful sight
With people here working by day and by night
They don't sow potatoes nor barley nor wheat
But there's gangs of them diggin' for gold in the street
At least when I asked them, that's what I was told
So I just took a hand at this diggin' for gold
But for all that I've found there, I might as well be
In the place where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea
I believe that when writin' a wish you expressed
As to how the fine ladies of London were dressed
But if you'll believe me, when asked to a ball
They don't wear no tops to their dresses at all
Oh, I've seen them myself and you could not in truth
Tell if they were bound for a ball or a bath
Don't be startin' them fashions now, Mary Mochree,
In the place where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea
There's beautiful girls here, oh, never you mind
Beautiful shapes Nature never designed
Lovely complexions of roses and cream
But let me remark with regard to the same
That if at those roses you venture to sit
The colors might all come away on your lip
So I'll wait for the wild rose that's waitin' for me
In the place where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea
You remember young Diddy McClaren, of course
But he's over here with the rest of the force
I saw him one day as he stood on the strand
Stopped all the traffic with a wave of his hand
As we were talking of days that are gone
The whole town of London stood there to look on
But for all his great powers, he's wishful like me
To be back where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea
-
That Is IT!!!!
Thanks Jay!!!
-
So I"ll wait for the wild rose that's waiting for me...where in the dark place of the mourne waits for me...

'Where the Mountains - o' Mourne sweep down to the sea'
- Percy French
The popular song has made the Mournes the best known mountains in Ireland. Distinctive and self-contained, they are tucked away in the south-east corner of Northern Ireland, with 12 shapely summits rising above 2,000 ft on the eastern side.
The barren peak of Slieve Donard, climbing steeply to 2,796 ft, dominates the mysterious blue distance of the landscape. It's an afternoon's climb from the catpark at Bloody Bridge near the holiday resort of Newcastle. From the top you can see the Isle of Man and the full length of Strangford Lough. To the north-west lies the pale line of Lough Neagh, a vast inland sea covering 153 square miles, famous for its eels, an Ulster delicacy. Hundreds of tons of eels are exported each year.
BTW - it is Mary "Mochree" - Gaelic Mo Chroi - meaning my heart (love).

Its an excuse to get together with 11 other families at the Oregon coastline. ;)

That's disturbing to say the least! (Both the pic and the fact that you saved a pic of my bed!)

I do have a folder for you: My Documents\My Pictures\Aces High\ripsnort
What’s disturbing is that it only has the pic with the bird on your head in it and a few photochops from it. I had to search AH BBS for your bed, but it wasn’t hard to find.

Amazing how a serious post about a national holy day can wind up as a Save the Seals poster child. :huh

:rofl That sequence of pics is funny. All you reall need to do to get back to the original theme is to photoshop the water to Emerald green or maybe black like the Guinness.;)
As for St Paddies day, Micky1992. You were right. It was boring as hell for years. It's all changed since you visited Dublin. Now it's a festival that goes on for a week and ends with a fourth of July like fireworks display. The parade was re-vamped to give it a bit more razmatazz. 32 countries were represented this year including the now traditional American high school bands playing 'Dixie' or the 'Stars and stripes forever' depending on whether they were from GA or OH. They even had Brazilian samba dancers. Brave girls to face the cold Irish wind:lol. Everyone goes around wearing stupid Irish hats and flying flags on their cars. But one thing is traditional, everyone drinks too much and the cops have lock up dozens of drunks every Paddies day. :rofl

Since this thing is back up to the top I might as well throw in all of the junk I have with backgrounds trimmed:

Your little confused/sad face  had me going, I was afraid that I hurt your feelings or that maybe you sincerely believed you offended me. That’s why I don’t use emoticons; they are just too emotional. I’ve just created a safe, non-emotional poker-faced emoticon, however. It’s the only one I think I’ll feel comfortable using: (http://hallbuzz.com/images/unlinked/poker.png)
