Took my 8 year old (to be 9 in June) daughter hog hunting this week a couple of days for Spring break. She has hunted various game with me in the past but as an observer. We started planning this hunt in back in January and at that time she told me she wanted to actually hunt this time. Anyway, I researched, talked to other hunters, and finally decided on a NEF Handi-Rifle Youth Version in 243.
A local gunsmith cut the stock down even more to fit her, added a nice recoil pad, and dropped the trigger from 7-8 down to 4-5 lbs. She practiced with me at the range and, while not a super tight pattern, she could put 3 out of 3 consistently in the bullseye at 100 yards.

She dropped this 200+ lber with a nice heart/lung shot at about 75 yards using Federal 100 gr Nosler Partition ammo. We had practiced either a heart/lung or head shot. She was shooting from a rest inside a blind and only had about 4 seconds to acquire and take the shot.

Dropped the meat off this morning at a local processor for various sausages and tenderloin cuts.

You probably won't worry too much when she's a teenager and starting to date :lol

Did she drink any blood, or do you not do that with hogs?
-
Rgr that, I never hunted hog, only deer.
-
Traditional blood related initiations are probably not a good idea with feral pigs. Maybe if she gets a deer in the fall.
-
How did that switch up...lol?
I wish her luck then in getting a deer.
-
Just wanna say your daughter is very beautiful. Can't say much for the oaf standing beside her, though.

wtg Rogwar! and nice hog. your daughter must be pretty amped about that. my daughter is 12, and we hunt together, tho she carrys a scoped ruger .22.

Hehe. The smile in the bottom pic says it all.
I love to see kids hunting and fishing with their families.
Great memories are made that way.
-
I think it is great to carry on the traditions of hunting and passing on the skills.
I am remiss in this department. I found I didn't enjoy hunting much so never took my kids out hunting.

Outstanding!! Congrats to your daughter and well done to Dad.

A beautifull daughter and a great accomplishment, WTG. Sadly, everytime I see a kid in uniform with a gun, my mind is bombarded with grusome images from Africa or Gaza.

I'm glad to see that there are young ladies out there that like to hunt with their fathers. Most girls would say "How could you kill that poor little deer, or piggy". Congrats on her kill. I hate hogs, they destroy everything.
Here in Oklahoma we have a big hog problem. They're too smart and they hide all day, then come out right when the sun goes out.
-
Thats awsome. Your daughter is more of a man then most Euros!
:rofl
-
Most excellent rogwar! Pass on congratulations for me. Good to see this passed down. I grew up in a family without knives and guns, so I didn't start hunting until 6 years ago (with my father-in-law). I bought a SigSauer 30-06 and got my 1st deer that year.
We intend on teaching Ian (our 5 year old son) the responsibility and joys of hunting.

Door Gunner: Git some! Git some! Git some, yeah, yeah, yeah! Anyone that runs, is a VC. Anyone that stands still, is a well-disciplined VC! You guys oughta do a story about me sometime!
Private Joker: Why should we do a story about you?
Door Gunner: 'Cuz I'm so ******' good! I done got me 157 dead gooks killed. Plus 50 water buffalo too! Them's all confirmed!
Private Joker: Any women or children?
Door Gunner: Sometimes!
Private Joker: How can you shoot women or children?
Door Gunner: Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't war hell?

Doesn't look like a uniform to me, just camo for hunting.

Congrats to the little lady and to you Sir for taking the time to teach her how to hunt and hunt safely.
My Grandfather and Father taught me the same way in the early 50s'..Went just to observe many times. then one Christmas under the Christmas Tree was my first shotgun...a 410. that signaled that I would then be able to hunt along with them!
Great memories!

Karnak, like I said, I think it's an awsome accomplishment, big props to Rogwar for the teaching, and the bond he is creating with his daughter.
Yeager, I happened to have been remotely involved with the child soldiers from DRC, I don't think I'm a mental case if "child+gun" brings images other than this shining little girl. We each have our "demons" depending on the life we lived. :)

No, you're just being a moron by turning a celebratory thread into a political statement.
Back on track;
Being an Englishman, I never was into the guns side of things but remember fondly the patience and care my father put into teaching me how to fish. It is an essential bond forming exercise and I salute you for passing your interest on to your daughter.

COOL! Just like World Of Warcraft!!!

It was a joke, and had nothing to with politics, lighten up frances.

Man, that is just too cool! I taught my daughters how to shoot at an early age but since I wasn't into hunting I never did that part of it.
Oldest one at 12 could hold a 1" group at 100 yards with my 22-250 :D
