Ok,

I can't find DTED for the Marianas, so I'm looking for the next best thing.  Luckily, the islands are small if I need to do it manually, but...

I've got some relief maps of the islands, including some USGS topo maps and I was wondering if I make a grey scale of the islands, what variation in color values I should use for each elevation gradient.  I'm guessing that after I make the grey scale, I just use a blur to smoothe the transitions.

If you can use DTEDs then you can probably use DEMs (http://edc.usgs.gov/products/elevation/gtopo30/gtopo30.html).

Lots of areas where DTED isn't finished, all of Britian the last time I checked.

I started doing it manually.  Wow!  This could suck up some time...and it is supposed to be such a nice weekend.  LOL!
