Past 3- 4 months I've discoed, lost UDP like crazy. Never had issues before in 3+ years. Almost every day I get into dogfights and warp. Channel 200 comments to relog make me feel like a frickin newb with dial up.
I have cable and a fast connection, so what can I do to fix this as it's wearing a bit thin.

UDP loss is strictly due to packet loss on the Internet connection. We really have no control over this.
It is easy enough to diagnose. Simply run a Pling Plot to 206.16.60.38 and see where the packet loss is happening. You need to do this immediately after the packet loss or UDp to TCP switch occrus to have anything meaningful.
If there is no packet loss, then check the game's 'Net Status' and watch the 'Variance'. If it is spiking around and not perfectly flat, then there is a good chance your computer has other issues.

Skuzzzz???
So your sayin the McAfee stuff is not helping me?... Being turned off??
Many thx Gatr

Oh no. Anything that has the potential of interferring with data packets should always be suspect. Anti-virus programs are very nasty in this area and are getting worse.
McAfee and Norton/Symantec both have fast become worse than the viruses they are supposed to protect your computer from.

Thx Skuzzzz

What sort of modem/router? I've noticed as connection speeds have been increasing in NZ a lotta people are finding the limits of their modem/routers very quickly.

Gatr,
What services did you turn off in McAfee? I thought I had it all turned off but I think with their new upgrade their is a port scanner running somewhere. I have been warping, unstable fps and discos

theres two ways to get a pingplot. First is through the windows command line. START > RUN and type cmd in, ENTER to open the command line window. just type ping http://www.hitechcreations.com and ENTER to start. This is what it looks like:
As result it tells me (in German, sorry ;)) that it sent 4 packets, none of them were lost. average ping time was 164 ms (which is pretty good for a transatlantic connect). There are 4 servers for the game:
12.193.161.229 or http://www.hitechcreations.com - thats the webpage (the one i pinged above)
206.16.60.39 - Early, Mid, Late War Orange Main Arena Server
206.16.60.38 - Axis vs Allies, Training, Dueling, Late War Blue
206.16.60.37 - Special Events Arena
To ping the arena servers, you need to ping the IP adress (thats the number). This quick ping just tells you IF you can connect to the server and if theres major packet loss. It will not tell you where along the line the problem is. For that, i usually use Pingplotter, thats a free program that will run pinplots for you. Go to http://www.pingplotter.com and download/install the Freeware version.
On this output, I can see that there are 24 hops between me and HTC. If theres a problem, the details tell me which hop in line hogs up the packets and causes the trouble. A few times in the past, when I had connect issues I sent pingplot outputs to Skuzzy, he can usually tell you better where and what is wrong. And even more important, whos responsible for fixing it.
To get an output, simply go to Edit, then either "save as text" or "save as image". The text can be copy pasted into your post (CTRL V). If you have an image, open Paint (or any other pic editing software), create a new image and paste the pingplot in. Then save as new image file - to post it youll need to host it on the web).

If you are running behind a router, you should check to see if there is a firmware upgrade available. I run behind a Linksys router with wired and wireless ports. My daughter was complaining that her computer would occassionally disconnect from the network and I was seeing lots of discos in AH as well. It finally dawned on me that the router could be the problem. I went to the Linksys web site and found that there was a new firmware version and flashed it. It seems to have fixed my problems.

Thanks guy's appriciate your help

Ok, so lets say you have run pingplotter and found a reoccuring problem down the line with one of the hops.
What is a good way of passing this information on to the provider? For my situation, it's one of the servers that is owned by my provider.
-
Contact your ISP armed with the information. The immedaite support will tell you they are only responsible for the immedaite connection to you.
And there is some truth to that. That is the first line support's only responsibility. So you ask who do I need to contact to get this resolved?
Rinse, repeat, until you get to the person who may actually be able to do something.
