Title: Noob question
Post by: onemind on March 19, 2007, 09:49:44 AM
Hi all,

Really basic question here if you dont mind.

I can start my engine, throttle up, take off, lift gear but i cant steer the plane. When i move my mouse the pointer just moves around, is there a way to get rid of the pointer to steer the plane with the mouse?

THe arrow keys just move the view around. I cant seem to find any way to controll the elevators and steering flap things :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the 'H' key is used for this.

You need to set your mouse up and have a toggle button set to toggle between flight control and regular mouse functions. See Schatzi's Mouse Setup Article (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/mouse/mouse.htm) for instructions on how to do this.

onemind, this game is VERY precise, and yes while able to configure it for use with a mouse, it is not very advisable.

You need a joystick to play this game properly... even a cheap one will work much better for you than a mouse.

Good luck

While it is possible to play with a mouse and some people become quite proficient with it (couple squadies come to mind) most people find it to be of great benefit to invest in a decent joystick, which can help smooth the very steep learning curve we have here.

onemind I started with a Saitek 290.  A little twisty stick for $20 that will help you decide if you're in for the long haul or not.

If the bug 'gets' you I'd recommend CH gear.  It's sturdy and you can program the heck out of it and they support their product.  Downside is it will set you back over $300.

If you decide you've got the bug but can't lay out 3 beans plus keep your Saitek and buy the CH throttle, then the pedals, then the joystick.  Mothball the Saitek in case something goes awry and get comfy piece by piece.

BTW.. no matter how much money you throw at equipment you're going to get killed a lot for a long time but this community, for the most part, is very supportive and helpful and will give you tips, advice, and training, until you are a terror in the skies.

Play the game the way YOU want to.  Personally I don't care about score but if you do then more power to ya.  Do NOT listen to anybody who taunts you on 200 and more importantly if they do and mouthing isn't your bag just ignore them.  If you like to mouth then be sure you can back it up.  But remember there's always somebody better than you are.

Set up an appointment with a legitimate trainer as soon as you can and that will make your learning curve go up exponentially.

At first you will rocket up with the learning curve then level off.

Much like a big league pitcher you're going to have hot streaks, cold streaks, and so so streaks.  Do NOT let the downs frustrate you and make you throw in the hat.

When you're in a cold streak go offline and shoot drones or get an appt with a trainer or just fly in the TA.  The problems you're having will either A) be pointed out or B) work themselves out.

If you ever see me online esp in the TA give me a holler and I'll be more than happy to fly drone for you.

Welcome aboard :)

If you fly H2H ask someone in there if they fly with a mouse and have them help you program the controls to it

I use 1 of these

I have throttle set to the wheel in the middle

right bottom: primary weapon

left button secondary weapon

^------  what bat said also the Ki84.

The people who think mouses are useless in this game need to go fight him 1 vs 1 for a few hours.  I wouldnt really want to be doing that with a stick in fear of breaking or wearing mine out.

A good starter stick is the 'EVO' by Saitek.  The price is right and it is a decent stick.:noid
