Operation Bodenplatte (http://ahevents.org/european-theatre/operation-bodenplatte.html)
On January 1st 1945 Hitler's last gamble "Operation Bodenplatte" took off at first light to attack Airfields of the 2nd 9th and 15th Air Forces. Scheduled during the Ardennes Offensive, Weather played a big part of its being delayed until the New Year. Although 1000 Axis Pilots took place in the "Big Blow" most of them were new pilots. Twin engine bombers escorted these green pilots to the airfields in Holland and Belgium, Only to be shot at by their own AAA, because the German Army was not used to seeing that many friendly airplanes in the sky. As the Attackers approached radar in Belgium that was used to track the V-1's to England, the allies detected the large strike force. Allied fighters scrambled and engaged the 800 plane strike force. What ensued was an axis catastrophe, In all 19 leaders were numbered among the 250 casualties suffered by Luftwaffe that day. Although claiming 500 enemy aircraft destroyed including and nearly 80 shot down in air to air combat, Allied losses would be made good in two weeks. On the German side however most Jagdgeschwader never fully recovered before being sent Eastwards to stem the Russian advance towards the River Oder.

-
Do you mean 9 pm EDT?
-
Either way, Mickey's big hand will be on the 12 and his small hand will be on the 9, but us westy's need to be there by 18:00.:D
-
It's just important to get it right so that people in other countries can convert to the right time.
My guess is that it is 9 PM EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), as the US is not on Daylight Saving time.
-
Lets not split hairs here. EST vs DST is something us Americans have grown to deal with. The start time will remain 9 pm est as not all of the United States observes DST. If it's 9 in NY city the event will be starting.
Here is a link if there is any questions. http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java
We could break it down further to NIST time but do we realy need to :)
There is a heck of alot of us out there trying to get together for this complicating the start time will not help :)

Have a cold one and concentrate on the event, MGD.
We are all big boys and girls and will figure it out.
At least those who are serious about attending.
The rest can file all the necessary protest forms in the round file. :D
See you Sunday.

You should advertise this on main boards too.

That's my point. New York is now on Daylight Saving time. When a New Yorker sees "9 PM" on their clock tonight, it will not be 9 pm EST but rather 9 PM EDT.
If you really mean that the event is at 9 pm EST, then New Yorkers should be showing up at 10 pm according to their wrist watches.
Yes, American's generally know, when you say "meet you at 9 pm Eastern time" what time that is. People in other countries sometimes need to know whether you are talking about EDT or EST, though, as they don't know when the US regions change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time and vice versa.
So, I'm just asking to be clear -- do you really mean 9 pm EST? I think you mean 9 pm EDT. But, if you really do mean 9 pm EST, I'll be showing up when my clock says 10 pm Eastern time (as I'm on Daylight Saving Time along with most of America).

Why not solve the problem by specifying the time as GMT. That way everyone works from the same reference point.

why not give both times. EDT and GMT. Redundancy will help spot errors.

Kermit can't tell time anyway
I agree, Zulu is universal

Ok all the work is done. It's up to all of you to show up, get in a flight, & have some friggen fun!!!
I ask that you respect the pilot next to you as he will be trying to clear your six later in the frame :)
Remember this all. This is not a squad based event. We are trying to create something everyone can enjoy. If you feel you can help the side CO please let him know. I know they are looking for help from all of you.
My plan is to let the AH community create this event so in short the "golden rule" is in effect. Over the years I have been impreased time and time again with this crowd. I know we can make this into something outstanding!!!
Hope Everyone Makes It!!!
