Sounds like every single SH release, to a certain extent.
-
Even the diehards over at Subsim are complaining about this release.
I'm gonna wait a few months until many of the bugs are fixed.

Yeah, I noticed that too. So today instead of SH4, I'm getting STALKER,
-
If it doesn't have Starforce this time it can't be that bad..

Why would anybody buy a version 1.0 of anything? No games ever come ready now, the release dates are quarterly driven for the shareholders, ready or not. I always wait a few months. I just bought SH3 last month. Glad I did, I get the 1.4b version right off the bat.
To those that ran out and got Vista so they can say they got it, all I can say is, you were warned. ;)

Remember SHII? Its release, followed by DC were both pretty filled with problems. It took a 3rd party patch to make SH2 what it finally became (Same with SHIII)
-
I've got my eye on both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and SH4, and I won't be buying either one for at least two months. I want the bad bugs gone, not a repeat of the F.E.A.R. fiasco. Release a game, the 1.01 and 1.02 patches in the same week? I paid for a finished product, not to BETA test a release the marketing dept. wanted to put out two months ahead of schedule.
I'm waiting on both.

just revieved word that my pre-order is delayed from amazon, maybe i should cancel till they get the bugs out
-
My pre-order with Gamestop was delayed. This is probably the 4th game they've done that with. I have no problems with "popular" games, the ones all teh kiddiez are crazy about...but actual worthwhile games they falter on.
I believe it will be gogamer.com from now on for me.
Meanwhile, I'm downloading Silent Hunter 4...6.5 hours remaining. :(
I just hope the patches are adapted quickly for Direct2Drive.
Sigh...

Some bugs are ........good for 'caption this' topics.

"sir, we are surrounded"

Did they make all crewmembers "fat American" stereotypes?

At least SH2 and SH3 didn't have big time show stoppers. SH4 is full of those. SH3 was a good investment right off the bat - There wasn't any absolutely annoying bugs. SH4 on the other hand has me totally annoyed.
btw. it seems to be easier to sink a CV than cargo ships - 1 or 2 torps are enough to sink a CV, but you'll be lucky to sink a cargo ship.
At least it's now possible to sink warships bigger than destroyers (I mean, you'll actually meet them on regular basis). It's not uncommon to find a cruiser. I've even seen a BB, but it was too far and heading away. I met a CV fleet when returning back to port - Fortunately I had some torps left and managed to sink 3 CV's and heavily damaged a heavy cruiser.
I shot a salvo of 4 torpedoes right off the bat at the biggest CV in the fleet. Soon after one torpedo explodes prematurely, then another and then third. By now I'm totally annoyed and cursing loudly, as only one torpedo is headed to the target and I'm sure it's not enough. A minute or two after the impact I take a second look at the CV - It was about to flip over! A single torpedo sunk the 2nd biggest CV in the entire japanese navy.
The other two were rather easy because they kept doing circles and the escorts didn't do anything while I was reloading torpedoes and picking off the cherries.
