Nobody's commented on the lighting and shadows and contrast of the image yet.

Am I the only one that notices these things? :P They're in the shadow so they're all black, but the sherman, despite being in a smoke cloud/fog bank, is pretty clear and decently lit. Interesting effect.

I think when they showed the last screenshots of the trees and hedgerows that they said it doesn't hit the FPS any more than what we already have does.

I noticed, and the first question was "smoke" or "ground fog".  Ground fog would fundamentally change the way air-to-ground works; no longer are we in perpetual summer with unlimited visibility.  GVs can hide, ground attack aircraft will no longer be able to pull up 10' off the deck...

I also noticed the trestle bridge, the windmill, and the P39 off in the distance.  Could be a GREAT update.

I don't see any aircraft.

Also, we could have trestle bridges now. I'm sure I've seen them in at least one terrain. It depends on the map maker though, and their use of custom objects.

Ah, but is there going to be APDS (Armor Peircing Discarding Sabot) ammo to go with the 17 Pdr?

Would be nice to have a few rnds, maybe for say 10 perkies you get 10 rnds or something, with the rest regular AP and HE ammo,  and smoke of course.

Krusty, I don't think that's a lighting change.  It looks like something common in video games, where a white translucent sprite will highlight rather than mask what's behind it.
It happens in AH too, when you look through the gunsight glass at night.

Thanks for the update Pyro!

I hope there's gonna be at least one new airframe in the new version. It has been about 2,5 years since new planes were introduced the last time.

At this point any new kite will do! :)

Updating the old 3D-models can take the wait for one new aircraft!

I wish I had better news for you on that Wmaker but I'm afraid we don't have a new kite for this release.  Unfortunately, the terrain work has just taken a lot longer than we anticipated and even then, we were only looking at another updated airframe to fit the schedule.

The good news is that we do agree with you that a new airframe is overdue and we were discussing that at our meeting this morning.  After this release that will be Waffle's next task while the rest of us put our collective efforts towards CT.  We decided that we'd let the subscribers pick the next plane so I've been thinking of some various ways to have a run-off poll on what that should be.  I'll be making a post on that in the near future.  Now would be a good time to get your Brewster lobby mobilized.:)

That should be easy enough to pull off.

Forum Post with Plane Request, followed by a poll with the top 10 Most Requested.

Best part of a forum based poll, each forum member can only vote once :)
Title: Test arena recon photo
Post by: Pyro on March 21, 2007, 10:18:13 PM
It won't be a forum vote, it'll be online in-game.  It'll be some sort of a run-off so that it doesn't come down to some small plurality.  I just haven't thought about that enough.

Very interesting info, Pyro! Thanks for letting us in on the process.

Quick question, though: Are you going to give priority to certain groups of planes? For example, update all the old "Generation 1" models that still have 256 default textures? Or perhaps give priority to those that might be in the next tour, (example: you expand first CT to include RAF, so you'd want mossies, typhies, whatever)?

Or will it be totally random?

Pyro, I missed that completely, there are Far more players online and In Game than frequent these boards.

BTW the creenshots look great!

One small request on the new rides though.
When its put to a vote.
Can we limit the choices to rides not currently in the game rather then another varients of already existing rides?

Count me in, Gianlupo! I know we all want the G.55, but the C.200 would really be useful in MTO, N. Africa, and even the BOB scenarios.

And, if folks are getting sick of Macchis (HAH! Can that even happen?? :huh ) we can do the G.50 instead. They were contemporaries, with about comparable performance and armament.

I'm sorry Gian, I just can't bring myself to vote for a S.79 :lol

Don't worry, I know that S.79 or Cant. Z.1007 are only a dream... and I'm afraid early war italian planes won't get much attention.... so.....

start repeating after me:

G.55... G.55... G.55... G.55...

I was thinking mabey the In game vote could go something like this.  The voting system would come up on the screen like the normal Arena Message on your clip board.

*Screen Comes Up*

Would you like to vote for a new aircraft

   Yes or No

If no is selected screen goes away.

If yes is selected the next page would come up saying,

*Pick a nation of what plane you would like to be added*

   USA
   Germany
   Italy
   And so on...

For which ever country you selected a screen will be opened that says.

*Please choose an aircraft from the ******* nation you have selected.*

For instence lets say you choose America. A list pulls up like so.

 P-39
 P-61
 B-25
 B-29
and so on.

Then once you have clicked on your vote hit ok and submit.

Husky, chances are it'll be a simple option with just 8 or 10 or "however many" radio buttons and the most common requests.

Gianlupo: G55! G55! G55!!!!!

er....

unless the Me410 is on the list... then I'm going to have to sneak around back and vote for it... :O
Title: Test arena recon photo
Post by: Gianlupo on March 22, 2007, 11:57:41 AM
It seems a good way, Husky, but, to assure that the poll will give every plane the same chances, it would be nice to list them all together, without the nation thing, giving a short description of their role and capability... otherwise, people will vote only basing on the "I heard of it", clearly hampering the less famous planes... I think mostly of the people who flies the game but doesn't know much about the WWII aviation... I bet there are a good share of players in that category.

EDIT: Krusty, you traitor!!!! Me410 can be added later!!! :furious :D

P-39 & B-25

25 because its a early war bomber "or could be"
Was used by alot of countrys.
The 25 would also give the rissuans a bomber, that they realy need badly.

p-36 because of the same things.
only they would fit perfectly for the nations that have lass planes right now.
Russians americans british could all be supported by one airframe.

thats like three birds with one stone.

Russians also had the A-20; we just need to give it the right skin.

P36 would be my vote for new airframe.  Too ubiquitous to ignore.

The list of things we "need" is too long to get into, so I'll stick with the things that can be used the most in terms of events and in the arenas if people are so inclined.  Not everyone flies La-7s, H1K2s, and Spit XVIs.

Interesting "picture" in black and white. So as a photo it looks more authentic.

Next question, is there a recon facility in that arena? I mean a way in which you can have someone go out on foot to sneak a view or maybe use some binoculars. As an addition to the "young" trees we currently have those "mature" ones with a large trunk a welcome change. Interesting to see what is being "toyed with" at the moment!

ok, im not gonna lobby for new planes (Already got a thread for that). Pyro, how long can we roughly expect to wait for the sherman? No two weeks / new Three Weeks jokes. (that includes 14 days and however many seconds it is or minutes or hours etc). And can we expect the skin pack to be included in the update?

Clearly it's the ill-tempered rare Green-Breasted Sherm Sherm!
