ZCopier!

hope it gets locked for punting. :t

I don't see why it should be closed, as it is very relevant to the current situation.
Anyway, here's the link: link (http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52235) if it gets locked. :)

So, explain again why the A6M2's thrashed the US version of it and the Finnish version smeared the I-16-24s again?
;)
-
Unfortunately the score link I had in the previous thread has disappeared, but the Brewster got many kills of La-5, Spitfire mk 5 and other later war frontline fighters. I can try to dig out that data again.
-
'Cause the US version was underarmed, overweight and underpowered?
Or were you just being rhetorical?
-
Yes, the US version was all of that. Finnish version was powered with the same powerplant but with reduced weight it was enough of an edge until 1943 against the Soviets.

"So, explain again why the A6M2's thrashed the US version of it"
Easy, in its only air combat with the US it was outnumbered 118 to 26 at Midway.
7 F4Fs and 19 Brewsters vs 36 A6M2 Zeros (4 squads of 9) and 72 Attack a/c (36 Kate bombers and 36 Vals), the USMC put up a very tough fight, losing 19 of their # in the melee, fighting the Zero for the 1st time and knowing little about its strengths and weaknesses.
...that and I guess the Finns didnt ever fight the IJN? they fought Russian pilots with probably 1/4 of the training in hours (and thats probably generous), in a/c that were much less manueverable. The most inexperienced Zero pilot at Pearl Harbor had 1000 hours in fighters.
Kinda apples and oranges, some LaGG noob vs an A6M2 Zero naval pilot in a dogfight. Who you going to bet on?
That being said the Finns did remarkably in the Brewster, being both out numbered and in many cases out classed. I take nothing away from their combat record.
-
Squire, you're right about all the points you made.
I'd like to point out that the Finns were faced with some of the elite unites of the VVS, (e.g. some Guards regiments), but in general, their competence was not very high. Also, the Brewsters did shoot down quite a many of the later-war monsters, such as the La-5 and Spitfire-V.

It didn't work too well for the British in Malaysia, either. Finns were the only ones who had any success in the Buffalo.
It was a rare plane in real life (which was merciful), but we do run FinnRus quite often in AvA and a real Buffalo - or, more appropriately, the version the Finns flew - would be a lot of fun there. I can't imagine anyone wanting to fly a stock Buffalo in the Early War arena, though.

I hate to admit it, but it is time to add the brewster, for the AvA setups and scenarios, but primarily because all these damned Finns are increasingly becoming an obstacle that separates me from my P-39s and B-25s.
Vote Brewster and get it out of the way. We've bigger fish to fry. ;)

Thank for the pic quintv!
Brewster shot down those in rows. :)

If we get the Brewster, then we should have 2 variants...
F2A-1 US Navy variant.

B-239 Finland AF variant.

I say bring on the Buffalo!… We have enough uber-planes. It’s time for a crate that players with COJONES can enjoy!
