Have a new rig, Asus M2N-E SLI, AM2 Windsor 3800+, 1 gig of 800MHz OCZ memory, PNY Verto 7600GT 512MB video card, WD Raptor 10K RPM SATA HD (actually 2, I need to do some more work to setup a RAID 1). I have no sound card, this thing has some sort of supposedly monster onboard sound, and I needed to keep the cost down. I have an old Audigy Live! from my old rig.
I still have a few stutters, and some odd sound issues (breaks up). So, I'm not happy with it yet. Turning the sound acceleration down some helped.
I'm still running Windows 2K Pro, it's a fresh install. Nothing is turned up, in fact, I have the memory timing loosened up, because I can't turn the voltage up on the memory.
I kind of felt like this thing should run circles around my old one.
Also, I've got 90% of the skins downloaded, and the hi res pack installed, but all the skins are in red, and won't select.

One thing that some folks say has helped with stutters is to go into the BIOS and up your PCI latency. The idea is that the stutters are caused by the hardware not having enough time to use the bus properly, and by upping the latency it gives them the time.
As for the sound, what onboard sound does your mobo have?
AC'97? RealTek Audio? A Sound Blaster derivitave?
Definitely find what sound chip you have and check for updated drivers for that chip.
I've had a VOX issue for a while that seems to persist regardless of which sound card I use. I've just had to live without being able to hear 25% of the people on vox (while others can hear them just fine). Sound bugs can be the hardest to track down or fix, if nobody else has any helpful tips.
I don't know what would cause the skin problem like that.

With 2Gb of RAM you can turn the paging file off and things should fly along.
I have a similar setup, AMD 4000+, 7600GT, 2Gb RAM, Audigy Live. Zips along quite nicely.
-
I may pick up another 1Gig of RAM.
The sound is C-Media CM6501 7.1 8 channel. I think that is the sound issue.
I would NOT recommend this board to anyone, I'm thinking this thing is going on ebay as soon as I can get another board.
I screwed up, my video card is a GS, not a GT.

C-Media is the worst sound device ever created. The drivers are, without doubt, the worst as well.
I really do not get why this company is still around.
-
I noticed. I'll stick my old Audigy Live! in it. I wonder if that will help the stutters and stuff.
Why are the skins all in red and not available?
-
If you have not connected online yet, they will be red. There is a file the server has to send to you to enable them.
Also begs the question, where did you get the skins?
-
I've been online, helping everyone else boost their K/D ratio. The skins downloaded in the background, as they always have.
-
Oh, you are waiting for each skin to download. The red means you simply have not gotten the skin file yet. It can take months for the 450+ skins to download while you play the game.
-
DOH!

Its because they are a cheap component for the mobo makers to put into their systems.

You have the 7600GS I see you mentioned Savage. I have the exact same card. You need to check the thread that I started to see if that helps. If you dont feel like reading the thread, you have to google the coolbit.reg and run it. It should show the ability to now change the agp to 4x in the nvidia settings. You may have to go into BIOS as well. Be sure to make sure you also have a big enough power supply.

I had big problems trying to get AH to run in the beginning as it would freeze after a few minutes.
When I got this new comp it only took me 2-3 weeks to get all the skins and I wasnt on very often. When I got on I was on for about 3 hours roughly during the week and more on weekends. Only got on maybe 2-3 days during the week.

Definitley lose the onboard sound sir.Put in another gig of ram,and I believe you will solve the problem.I had similar set couple of years ago,and it played AH well.

which begs the question.
Not meaning to hijack but
Why doesnt HTC have the option of downloading all the skins at once as well as individually?
Personally I think the options should be as follows.
1 Download skins individually.
2 Download skins by plane type
3 Download all skins in one package
-
I'd think it would be a real PITA to go and re-compile a 200MB download file every time they re-modeled a new aircraft, to remove the old skins and put new ones in at then update any old ones...
My guess: too much work.
-
The website would be nice to have check boxes by the plane skins. Just check the ones you want and download them to your skins folder .

We used to offer the bundle, but it got to be problematic.
EDIT: 38ruk, I might be able to do that down the road.
