Hey guys, I thought I'd upload a few little pics I snapped on my phone at the airshow today (should have taken my good camera... didn't even think of it *slaps self*)
The show was great even though the weather was terrible.... very cold, very wet and ****ing windy to boot, but some amazing flying was seen and everything ran on schedule.... Very impressive.
Anyway, there was a flight display of two RAAF P-51 Ds, a P 40 in RAF markings and a Yak 9U (replica built using original WWII Jigs).
The Yak was a stunning aircraft and I got some decent photos of it....
I believe that this a Yak 9U M and it is painted in an authentic scheme flown by Major Ivan Nikiforovich Stepanenko, Baltic Front, (40 Victories). Notice the airbrushing of the eagle grasping a 109 in its talons and the Order of the Red Banner emblem painted on the nose.... very impressive.
(This would make for a mighty skin, anyone looking for a new Yak9U skin to work on.....)
(Those of you with a ****e connection, I apologise there are lots of photos here.... all are roughly 800 x 600 in size.)

Yak is a great looking aircraft.

Thanks guys :aok
All photos were taken on my Nokia 6280 which has a 2.0 megapixel camera.
I must say, I was stunned by the quality of the pictures... i thought they would be rubbish (but better than nothing).
The photos are taken in 1600 x 1200 resolution and I resize them down to 800 pixles wide in photoshop in order to make them 'forum-friendly'.
The resizing of the photos makes them look much, much better. They're very grainy at 1600 x 1200..... (I never expected my phone to take high quality wallpaper shots anyway, so I'm happy), but pulling them back in PS really helps.
Anyway, glad you like the shots guys
Regards,
Arch

The owner of the Yak ... is he by any chance black or maybe Mexican? I couldn't help but notice the bling-bling chromed oil-cooler intakes. ;)

Is that one of those Allison engined new Yak's? For sale (http://www.russianaeros.com/yak9product.htm)
-
Yes, I believe it was an Allison engine replica.

One of the 'racers' at Reno bought one of those, Lee Greenwood maybe... anyhow he said in an interview that he had to rebuild most of the aircraft before he could get it certified. But its a good looking bird non the less.
