I think Karnak's sense of humour has disappeared since he got married... poor Karnak ;)

Ball excellent thread..thanks
I'm not trying to say anything mean.. but I just don't understand why there is such weak interest/demand for Soviet and Japanese planes.

Three words crammed together. BoB!

The Yak9T tater-gun says otherwise.

Helm agree. Japanese planeset needs some additions. There are several widely used fighters that should be in game. Same with the Russian planeset. Outside the US during WW2 I don't think anyone produced such huge numbers of aircraft then the Red Star.
-
I'd vouch for VVS planes if the list choice wasn't the Yak-3.
Come to think of it, the only reason I'm supporting the P-39 is about the VVS P-39s, and giving a mid war Soviet plane to be used in the game..
-
What are the Russian Japanese planes?
I know there was a Russo-japanese war in early 1900's, but there were yet no air forces at that time :p

It depend of the Yak3 :)

Yeah. It could be the "Early-Late" Yak-3 or the "Late-Late" Yak-3. There were also several "Too-Late" Yak-3s.
Yak-3 would (almost) have to be perked. It was a monster. It also saw service AFTER the Yak-9; don't let the number fool you.
-
I know the early Yak3 was almost a prototype and that the number has been reused for the late Yak3.
The Yak3 has been develloped by improving the Yak1, while the Yak9 was more radical change, including a larger number of metal parts if I understood well.
There never was an operational Yak-5, but the Yak-3 designation was recycled and applied to a highly successful Yak fighter variant. The second Yak-3 was not really a new aircraft, instead being a continued evolution of the Yak-1
I quoted this from http://www.vectorsite.net/avyak1.html#m3 (http://www.vectorsite.net/avyak1.html#m3)
