I have an Athlon XP 2800+ emachine that I have thought about upgrading. I am getting a new processor, mother board, 2 gig ram and a video card tomorrow. I was planning on putting them into the case I have now using the existing hard drive. The processor Im getting is an Intel e4300, gigabyte mobo, and a 7600GT video card. I imagine I will have to reformat the hard drive since the original emachine discs are installed on the HD. Can I get away without having to do a fresh install of Windows. Also, any reason why I cant use the original emachine case or is there a possibility I am going to have some issues with things not fitting into it and plugging into the mobo? Have no problems getting another case or power supply with things I need and leaving the emachine as is if I need to. Thought I would ask. Also is a 400 watt power supply to small or will it work? Yes I will probably overclock it.

I guess I should be specific with what I am getting:

 Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale
 GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
 EVGA  GeForce 7600GT 256MB
 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

If its the 400W psu that came in it from E=machines i would say it will have to be changed . For overclocking the PSU is one of the more important parts to a stable overclock . I could be wrong on the psu's quality but most of the time they use no names to keep the cost down .

There is probably a way to get around reinstalling windows , but i wouldn't recommend it . With that many hardware changes it's most likely going to ask you to re validate your installation anyway .

You may have issues with the PSU and reinstalling windows should definately be performed due to the difference in drivers and chipsets. Also the case may have a prewired front panel as such is the case with Dell desktops where the front input/output panel and power panel are tied together and have no identifying marks as the wires are all shielded in a black plastic conduit. It would be best to go ahead and get an aftermarket case and PSU. You can get a good X Connect PSU for about 40 bucks + shipping and a really decent aftermarket case for as little as 29 bucks + shipping.

I'd put it all in a new case with better air flow.  Better yet peltier and water  :)

I'd put the water to flow inside tubing and waterblocks though. ;)

I did buy a new case and PSU. Now have another problem. See the thread on the GA-965P-DS3 help.
