Lessee...

Over $1000 worth of controllers over the years...
Years of play at 2.00 hr, with monthly bills in the hundreds at times...
Years more play at various monthly rates, 24.99 mostly IIRC until the last 3 years or so, when it dropped to the 15.00/mo area...
At least 5 top of the line at the time computer systems, the most recent being the watercooled AMD based system that set me back over $3500 a little over a year ago...
Several several hundred dollar plus video card upgrades at various times...

At least a grand for the van rental for the trip to the CON with Kiwi and Skudoi, on top of the cost of the con itself.  (Not too mention subsequent cons that cost less because I drove my own car.)

Years of friendship ... PRICELESS!

if you do anything else on your pc you cant really count it .

joysticks yes...game sub yes... video card maybe... anything else is like getting leathers to ride your bike with.

If I added it all up between service, hardware, etc....plus time lost from being to lazy to go to work so I can play, pressure on the marriage (although shes been great with it) the past 11 yrs etc etc, I'd probably blow me brains out.

Let's compare this to another favorite pastime of men, GOLF.

Average greens fees in the US: $36.00 (in N. Florida it's more like $60) include cart and more like $50. 2x ($50.00) /month x 7 years=$8400.00

Average cost of a good set of clubs $1500.00.  New set every 3 years.=$3500.00

Golf balls, tees, glove, shoes and other expenses (beer girl) over 7 years ~ $3000.00

Total: $14900.00

So ask her, "Honey, would you rather I play Golf?"

(P.S. You not home while your playing golf)

Ron here is what you need to do.

When the 15 year old is on the computer tell him there is a girl out side asking for him down the street....Once he has exited the house lock the door....see.. simple thats 1 down but be careful he dons get mono then he will sit on the computer 24/7 like i do and that would back fire on ya.

Now for the 9 year old,  Buy her, her favorite TV show DVD 1st 2nd and 3rd season...this should keep her busy for quite sometime...after shes done watching them...well your on your own......

Now for  the wife...this is a toughy...shes one smart cookie and wont fall for these childish tricks....so...lets....see here...... ummm..... ya ...... I got nothin for that one.

hehe see again this is me having way to much free time.

:lol

ANY hobby starts to get expensive as the years pile on.

Golf is one example, but try model airplane flying, go-cart/auto racing or AutoX (my personal non-AH hobby), boating/fishing, hunting, gun collecting/shooting, home theater, and you'll find that they're all MUCH more expensive than your Aces High habit.

And at least the computer upgrades get used for other things. Ask your wife how she'd like to browse Ebay (or whatever) on an unupgraded 6-year old machine. She'd want to shoot herself.

You were always going to get new computers every few years; AH just made you spend slightly more on video cards each time.

Tell your wife to do the math for some other hobby, and then remind her that AH keeps you in the house and out of trouble with the boys elsewhere. She'll come around.

only been at it for 10 months so my total isn't bad at $860.  However the computer I'm planning on building sometime in the near future will bump that up exponentially and, since I only use it to either a) fly, b) visit the various related boards, and c) balance my checkbook I have to apply at least half of the expense to it.

Oh and Husky... point the spouse at Mac cosmetics online and various makeup related sites and you will have plenty of 'free' time.  Of course this 'free' time will cost you roughly $80 a month in makeup :D

well, I fondly remember  numerous bills of AW play at $700+ a month

I fondly remember my X, telling me AW was the cause of the Seperation/divorce after 12 yrs of marrige in  2000

I certianly remember all the computers  and what ot I went thru

only went thru 3 sticks ( 1st was a Wingman, then a CH combat stick, then 2 CH fighter sticks/pro throttle/pedals and both still work good, so does the Combat stick )

I certianly remember the monitors, although I retired my 3rd 21" for backup duty and  currently use a 19" LCD

I can asure you, I know exactly where FiLtH & Heater is coming from...been there and have dang near done that..........:D

Let's see, at least $500 on sticks, throttles, and pedals (stupid Windows 2000+)
3 new computers, probably another $2K
Probably $800 on monitors
I don't even want to think about how many hours at $2/hour in Warbirds, although I did get comped for a few months after I was CO for a scenario.

All together, probably a semester's tuition, room and board at a typical Ohio college.  And seeing as my youngest has decided not to go to college, there's no down side.  Woohoo!

I've never understood the wife-ack deal. What the hell does it have to do with them? I don't know about you, but I don't know any guy who whines to his wife, "You're buying makeup again?!" or, "You're going out with friends for lunch again!?" or, "You should turn off the TV and discuss our r e l a t i o n s h i p !"

I'm seriously thinking my next book will be titled Women Should be Seen and not Heard, or Shut Up and Bring me my Slippers.

I can't think of a thing that gives better value for $14.95 per month. Satellite or cable TV? Nope, it's all crap. A movie? Nope, they're all crap. I can't even buy a pizza for $14.95.

What do they expect you to do? Wait until your next life to do what you want?

:D

Hmm. 2 bucks an hour at one time, subs for WB's (since 96?) WWIIOL (2001-2006) PC's ,LCD monitors, controllers, Lan ,routers, T1 connex for hosting racing/ gaming servers, server rental for COD,RO and TS...I think I tallied it up to over 10 grand last year. Still not as expensive as my gun collecting hobby.

As for the wife thing....get her involved. My wife plays Red Orchestra, and races with us. She's pretty good at it too. Kinda takes the presure off. :)
