Just purchased a new 256mb GeForce FX 6200 PCI card....What are the recommended drivers for AH?
-
Post in the hardware section, or email Skuzzy. It also depends a great deal on the rest of your box and your operating system.
Make sure you completely kill your old drivers, reinstall DirectX 9, and THEN install the new drivers.

Why's that, Virg?

Mike I just got that same card Please let me I have some problems with the drivers I have download for it :cry Thank you

The 6200 is a problematic video card and really should not be used for gaming. It is far too low end. The 5200, as bad as it was, is a better video card.

Because having old drivers, or remnants of old drivers, can cause serious conflicts with the new drivers, causing all sorts of problems that can be difficult or even impossible to troubleshoot. Your drivers also have effects on DirectX. So if you kill your old drivers, reinstall DirectX, and then install new drivers, you'll have a fresh copy of unmolested DirectX for your new drivers to work with. Makes for a cleaner less troubleprone setup.

Hmmm... thanks for the tip. I've always removed old drivers first, but never heard about reinstalling Dx... will give it a try. :aok
Secondary question... do you have to nuke Dx, or do you just reinstall on top of the old one?
-
I've always just gone and re-downloaded DirectX, and reinstalled it.

I have the 6200, AGP form.. 256MB. I had to install a small fan onto the heatsink (did not come equipped with a fan) and it rarely goes above 85 degrees F.
I saw a HUGE increase in FR compared to my old 5200 card.. about 40%.. on my old XP2200 AMD system.
Now I have it installed in my E6300 system.. seems to be holding up well. I get a consistent 40-60FPS - 1280X1024 / 512texts... yes it may not be the best card out there, but it seems to hold up pretty good.
I found internet posts about unlocking all the pipelines on it.. and as I checked into the mods, I learned that they are already unlocked on mine... (XFX brand). I tried overclocking it a bit, but couldn't keep it stable above factory specs.
However, this may all be completely different on the PCI version.
Good luck
