Title: Invisible plane after alt-tabing
Post by: Exile on October 26, 2001, 08:24:00 PM
I just installed XP and ran into this problem. If I don't alt-tab, everything is ok, but once I do and then come back the graphics are all screwed.

Any ideas? Has the fix for this been posted in another thread?

Try setting you AH screen resolution and color depth the exact same as that of your desktop.

In Win2k, if I alt-tab and come back, I get all kinds of psychadelic colors making Aces High unusable.  This is with the latest Nvidia detonator drivers.  If I use the Hercules drivers for my card, it works just fine.

Curiously, other 3d games have no problems with the latest detonators, and I do get a nice framerate boost with them in Aces High.  Too bad I can't use em since I alt-tab out a lot.

I have a GeForce 256 SDR, directX 8.1, and Win2k SP2.

I get the multi colour effect for may be one second after alt-tabbing, along with a "freeze frame" of where I was when I alt tabbed; then after a second it "jumps" to my current position with correct colours. I haven't seen the "invisiplane" thing (but I wouldn't, would I?  :) )

Win 98 updated through the MS site, Dx 8, gefoce 2 on the lastest drivers.

Have you tried the Windows key if you have one on your key board.

Also what about trying Ctrl+Esc see if that helps.

I was using the latest NVidia drivers 21.83. I tried all different ways to get back to Windows and they all created the same problems.

I rolled back to the 21.81 drivers Hercules has on their site and the problems remain.

I guess I'll just have to hold off doing other things while I fly until a fix comes along.

I had problems with both 21.81 and 21.83.  14.10 works fine for me.

Why do you need to alt tab out of games anyways?

when I'm climbing out in a relatively safe area I like to check email or work on various other stuff.

Multi-tasking ... it's a must!    ;)

my bad... 14.10 doesn't work either after alt-tabbing.     :)  I just re-installed Windows 2000 last night (disabling ACPI to get rid of shared IRQs) and thought I was using 14.10 before the reinstall.  Actually, I have to use 6.34 back from October 2000 to get satisfactory results.  Anyone else with the first generation GeForce SDR and DDR cards find that later drivers don't work well?

If you go to Guillemot's (http://us.guillemot.com) website they have them under the Guillemot support/drivers section for the "MaxiGamer 3d Prophet".  They are Win2k and not specifically XP drivers though.

I had this same problem and played with some settings and it seems to have fixed it

in my case i set the antialiasing to 4X manually and the problem has gone away. I was previously set to "let the game decide" or something like that  - i haven't tried 2X or the other setting

I'm pretty sure it's because the game refresh rate is different than the desktop refresh rate.  In win2k this causes odd texture problems, winxp also has this bug.

There is a win2k/xp bug that causes a 60Hz refresh rate in full screen mode with direct x games.  A fix is available and I think the link was posted either here or in the hardware forum.

Notice that you need resolution AND refresh rate to be the same!

ok that refresh file is called

nvreffix-setup

i think it came from 3dfiles - search should find it - I didn't keep the link

I did also install that to get my refresh to default to 85mhz  - so maybe the combination of those 2 things has done the trick. I am running a different resolution ingame than on the desktop tho.

if you want i can email it to you - send me a note on redd@bigpond.com - think it's only 450K

Got same probem with WinXP and AH.
Must exit game to tune RW.
On re-entry oceans and hills are all speckled and clipboard is invisible.  Buildings are skeletons.
Sync'd AH & Desktop both at 1024x768x32, then both at 800x600x16 and refresh rates at 75.
All this did no good at all.

Any other ideas ?

The link to NvRefix is in this thread. It worked great for me. http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=003042 (http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=003042)

Found the fix for XP, AH, GF3 nVidia 64.
Tried all the below suggestions. Plus updated nVidia drivers from 5.13.01.1462 to 5.13.01.2183 dated 10/01/01.
None worked for me.

Solution was:
In AH intro clipboard "Video" settings,
Mip Mapping OFF
Disable Palettized Textures ON (Checked)
AH FPS: "unlimited"
AH resolution: 1024x768x16
Desktop set: 800x600x32
Getting 76 fps on the runway.

Will also look at nvreffix-setup.
Looking for 90 fps on runway.
Salute !
