What's your favorite plane from the other side of the iron curtain?
Mine is the Tu-22M...a beastly thing.

Il-28 Beagle......
It's just got that other-worldly mix of WW2 and post and has a bit of modern "sleek" thrown in, to boot!

MiG-25 Foxbat. Their 'Heavies' are ugly, but at least the 'Frogfoot' is sexy, AND big, AND powerful.

High-Speed Bomber-Intercept
Oh, also, I forgot for my vote, in addition to the frogfoot, after seeing it in a calendar I though this one was sexy:

Sukhoi Su-35 3D vectored thrust and it is the world most manuverable fighter aircraft. In a close in gun fight this thing would eat the F-22 for lunch.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever noticed that whenever they use an imaginary plane or substitute a NATO plane for a "MiG" (Top Guns "MiG-28" for example), its almost always given an even number, while real production MiG's have odd (3, 7, 9, 17, 17, 21, 25, 29...) number designators?
-
luckly for Serenity I only do catch and release....
have you ever looked at the SU-35 and say if a F-15 and F-16 had kids it would look like the SU-35.
Treize, I think they use the even numbers for bombers? IL-28, Tu-22, etc
Firefox used the Mig-31
-
mig 21, 25, 31, bear, badger and su25
-
Ummm your forgot about the Su-24 Fencer. The Yak-28 Brewer and the Yak-38 Forger. Those have even numbers.
-
Yak is still around??
-
Yak is still around, just not a very popular plane company anymore. Check out the Yak-130. They have also been making civilian and commerical planes.

Ah. Okay... Yeah, that went right over my head :D lol. I hear you on that idea.

I'm also fond of the SU-34, another interesting concept.

A-6 & F-15 had a baby.

Still say the MiG-29 is the sexiest aircraft of the last 25 years. :aok

I loooooooove the SU-47 "Berkut"........not operational yet..........but damn....in a close quarters fight this'll eat an F22 for breakfast lunch and dinner
(http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/fighter/s37/s37_05.jpg)
Edit:
Oh and the SO CALLED MIG-28 in TOPGUN is actually an american F-5.
And in a close quarters engagement as filmed, it should have taken out the F-14s without any problems. In RL the problem is getting that close, whilst avoiding the F-14s AIM-54 phoenixs (40+Nm kill range....nasty)

I was considering the Berkut, but I decided no. Pretty sweet plane though!

Dunno about that -- heck of a lot of firepower, but to me the Mi-24 always looked like a frog with some very bad tumors....

"DADDY!!! STALIN STOLE MY BLUEPRINTS!!!"
(Yes, I DO know that no blue-prints were stolen, a B-29 was captured and reverse-engineered. I was JUST MAKING A JOKE!)
-
One article says the Rusky engineers even copied patches on the B-29 that they knew were patches just so Uncle Joe wouldn't get mad at them for not obeying his order to copy it to the last rivet. One of the problems in the Tupolev TU 4 version was the Ruskies used metric guaged aluminum for their copies, which was thicker, so their planes weighed more and thus had less of a payload. But it could reach Chicago on a oneway suicide nuke trip, so the Pentagon thought at the time.

Ive heard the same story. Laughed my arse off!

TU-4 is amazing in a number of ways. For starters, to manufacture the B-29 is a feat by itself. But to reverse engineer, and then manufacture the same aircraft - hats off to ya.
