Title: My First Choice
Post by: Hajo on March 28, 2007, 04:38:49 PM
The B25.

Widely used in all theaters throughout the war.  How could it not be selected?

Also....I want to be there when Toads father hops online to bring back memories and grabs the controls.

The mitch is easily my second choice.
My first choice: He-111. Badly needed for the EW/MW/AvA arenas and events.

Cheers,

If it wins that best be the default skin.

Very cool that folks found that!  Is Daddy Toad on the plane in the particular pic?

Don't know.

Get Toad to tell ya the story of his Dad's last mission in Quitch.  It's amazing.  I also have the 345th BG history that supports the story and that Toad is even here to tell us based on that last flight, is a minor miracle and a testement to his Father's ability as a B25 pilot.

Nearly my last choice.   The B-25 was a fine bomber and widely seen during WWII, and very important, but the American plane set already large, the B-25 is pretty much between the B-26 and B-24 in speed and ord capabilities now, and U.S. plane set getting the Firefly added already.  With two exceptions, below, I'd rather see additions to the other countries from WWII.

If getting yet another American made plane, then a perk-worthy A-26 Invader, or a P-39 Airacobra in Russian Skin and placed in the Russian plane set, makes more sense to me.  Buff drivers need another perk economy sink than Arado.  2nd highest scoring Allied Ace was a Russian flying P-39's, and a big nod to the Lend-Lease part of the war (as well as being a great plane at low level similar to a Pony or Jug up high).  Otherwise, look to other countries plane sets to even things out more.

If just getting another bomber, look to the Russian, German, or even Italian plane sets, as they are pretty thin in planes overall, and bombers especially.

If looking for Early War bomber, go He-111 for Battle of Britain.

Only thing on that list that I rated lower than the B-25 was the He410 night fighter/bomber and bomber destroyer and Brewster Buffalo.  No night in arenas, so don't see the need for it.  Outclassed as a fighter by most planes in arenas.  And if arguing for a bomber interceptor, I'll take the G.55 over the He-410 any day.  Buffalo would be a hangar queen and occasional SEA ride.

And a vague entry of "another Japanese fighter" won't stand a chance in voting (and I'd go Judy before another Japanese fighter addition anyways, for Japanese and carrier plane-sets).  Don't stand a chance, and figure dropped in first round.

He-177 would have been on my list, but certainly HTC wants to avoid the whole issue about guided munition options.  Then, I'd have gone 88mm FlaK36 before Firefly.

I think my Dad flew it after the repaint of the Quitch art. There was a short period where it was unpainted betwee the two versions of the Quitch.

He was in the first group of replacement pilots to the 345th after the initial cadre went over. He flew Quitch as copilot for a few missions and then the A/C rotated and my father moved to the left seat. She had the later noseart for his left seat missions IIRC.

I do remember his first mission. He got there and almost right away they flew a night resupply mission up the coast of New Guinea to a recently captured Japanese airfield. The aircraft and bomb bay were full of medical supplies mostly but some ammo and rations as well. They landed right at dusk and were sent to the chow line. Before they got to eat, artillery shells started hitting the field and he spent the entire night in an underground earth and log bunker constructed by the previous owners of the field.

My dad was 6'2"; he said they were all crouched in there, sitting on their rears with their knees in the back of the man in front of you and your head hunched over to clear the roof. All night long. Bugs biting, spiders biting, skeeters biting, dirt falling on you from the close ones.

They were so eager to leave I think they skipped breakfast, fired up at sunup and rolled out of there back to Nadzab.

Dan

Glad you posted the skin of Toads' Fathers aircraft.  I also vote we make it the default skin.  I think it would be a fitting tribute to the Father of an Aces High Community player.

IMHO we can't do enough to honor all Veterans, especially WW2 Veterans who never cared about having a Monument to the work they did.  The WWII Veterans Monument came way to late in my opinion. Why?  Because they cared not for accolades.....they in their opinion just did a job that had to be done.

My Father is an 84 year old WWII Vet, who got awarded a Bronze star and his Combat Badge 40 years after the fact.  For those of you who don't know what a Combat Badge is, to be awarded one you had to be on the front line for at least 1200 straight hours.  He spent way more then that, never said a word to me about it but once, and that one time according to him was the last.  (I had to ask)

They haven't been called the greatest generation mistakenly.

Crossing Fingers for the B25.

By the By....the american aircraft numbers and models in game should be huge.  We made more aircraft and variants then anyone else during WW2.
