Bacon should be moved into a 5th food group and you should have to have 5 servings a day!
-
mmm.. Bacon sarnie with HP sauce.
-
that thing needs a quarter inch of mayo and couple slices of tomaters on it.
-
Add some sausage to that pile and then you have a sandwich!
-
what? you didn't deep fry the whole thing?

You guys need to try this.
BLT with turkey bacon on toasted sourdough. One of the greatest meals ever.
-
Bah, turkey bacon is better for you! I want in your face, grease drippings, fried bacon.
As a matter of fact, I had a nice Bacon Sandwich for breakfast. 12 slices of bacon and two slices of bread. Nothing better!
-
Wheat bread or white bread? Toasted, Fried, or regular? What brand? Approximately how thick were the slices of bread? Did you give Chris any? Say hi to Chris for me. How was the bacon cooked? On one of those microwaveable racks or in a pan? Did you make sure to have a fire extinguisher close by (grease fires are dangerous:aok )?
Last but not least, you better have some for the whole class.

I've never met a food that tastes great and is good for your arteries at the same time. (Maybe Sushi, that's about it...)
Bacon, its whats for dinner. (Although I gave up eating bacon years ago to maintain 15% body fat, however I still do splurge from time to time)

if you take any omega-3 fatty acids, flax seed oil and primrose oil in consistent quantities as well excercise regularly you can eat all of that stuff you like. the problem is those high in saturated fat diets coupled with your fat bellybutton in front of the computer getting pissed at what storch types that will kill you.
-
It's been 3 months since my last Bacon Butty and ive
got 6 weeks till i can get back to Blighty and stock up
one solution is follow it up with this
(http://www.geofftech.co.uk/iblog/wp-content/mushy_peas.jpg)

Yeah, you read my mind!
My liver already overdoes the cholesterol in my system as it is...add a few of those and....eek!
Sigh...looks...so...good...
-
NOTHING BEATS A GOOD OLD FASHIONED TOMATO SANDWICH!!!!!!
Well maybe a BLT! Then you get the best of all the world only you use mustard instead of mayo and you are good to go.
-
If you are worried about cholesterol, there are lots of foods that lower it. Any food with soluble fiber (whole grain oatmeal, cheerios) or okra (boiled, not fried) will lower it.

Not if you're genecticalluy predisposed to it. In my family history, our livers just crank out way more than we need. Battled it via nutrition, exercise (lost 20 pounds, etc)...all that. Still the same. One statin made me achey, trying a different one.
But you are right that there are some foods that help. I consume em, plus lots of Omega-3s and antioxidants!

I had the same problem with Lipitor, went to niacin therapy but even the 'no flush' kind gave me hot flashes.
I cut out almost all red meat and started eating oat based cereal for breakfast, lean fish 3x a week for dinner and lots of green veggies with a regular exercise routine and my colesterol levels on both sides are good.
Lipitor was the easy way, but the aches in my legs and arms sucked.
-
But what's the point of living then?

BLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old Hilts ain't havin no angioplasty. If I have a serious blockage, it's bypass time for me. Angioplasty is like a blowout patch on a wore out retread. Dad had an angioplasty done, 18 months later he had a massive heart attack that did major damage, and ended up with a 5 way bypass. Never fully recovered. No thanks.

Eat to live, not live to eat.
Sure, eating a fourteen pound bacon sandwhich is fun. But what if you get too fat to enjoy other things, like scuba diving, hiking, etc?

I did Nispan for 8 weeks. My total cholesterol went up 15 points! However, it did shove the good cholesterol into the 60s.
I was on Mevcor til a few days ago. Supposed to pick up a new prescription tomorrow morning. Another statin but not sure which. I'll let ya know.

Most of you guys are obviously not from Louisiana where we treasure our cuisine. Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamenation of their women!

I'm in the same boat LePaul. My liver cranks out the cholesterol. I'm on Plavix, Asprin and Lipitor. I was livin' the Homer Simpson goodlife diet until last November. Turns out what doesn't kill you does not make you stronger.
-
Wow, did you have a heart attack? I dont know many people who take plavix and asprin PRIOR to such an event.
Guy I worked with is on that stuff, he had a blockage, which they stented and put him on that regiment.
Im 37...I know my family history and Ive opted to tackle it now versus ignore it until its an issue later. Toad offered some good ideas, as did a nutritionalist friend and of course, my physician. Pomegranate Juice is great addition to the diet...kind of an acquired taste. But, also shown to reduce arterial plaque amongst other things. Google it, you'll see.
Ugh, I fear Ive become a health nut...the kinda types I used to despise for being a buzz kill LOL
-
Don't think I had a heart attack, the jury is still out. They caught it during a stress test after I was having some chest pain. Took me off the treadmill and put me on a gurney to the CathLab. Put in 2 stents and wanted to put in 2 more but they were hard to get to.
This week a study was released showing drug therapy was as, if not more effective treatment that stents.
-
Mmmmm...think it's time to cook some bacon.

Spagetti Con Pomodoro Fresco
or
Spaghetti alla Chitarra con pomodoro fresco e basilico frullato
And yes! I like bacon too.
-
Wow RPM, hang in there
I read that same news report. Bypass better than stents, etc
Heal fast!
-
a recent study showed stents to be next to useless... sry, no linky
i take lipitor and eat oats every day, sometimes even for dinner (i like oatmeal)
also, this is completely unscientific, but ... i also take 2 aspirins and 2 tablespoons of rough cut psyllium husks every morning on the theory that roughage is good for several reasons. if nothing else, you will feel like a king by late afternoon :)
my cholestral, which was very high, is now ideal.
-
i eat anything i want, i have (to quote my doc) "very low cholesterol".
i blame it on taking 1000mg of vitamin C per day, my doc say I'm crazy, i tell him i have very low cholesterol.
-
Bacon sandwich MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!
My favourite.
But ........ why can't you get back bacon in the supermarkets in the US - only really fatty streaky.
You can't beat smoked back thick cut ....... Thick rashers of outdoor reared back bacon on thick cut wholemeal and a big mug of tea ......
I'm hungry
The Wiki for those who don't know about "Back" bacon is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon)

Hmmm, there is an Italian place up the road that serves the first dish, never had it. I'll try that next time. :)
