I was LMAO the other day when someone on 200 said they were listening to Metallica... and called it Oldies.
Probably shouldn't have laughed. I suppose my teenager could rightly think of some of the Metallica as Oldies.
So, when you think Oldies, what comes to mind?
Here's mine: Everly Brothers
-
Buddy Holly.
-
Well, seeing as I'm 40 and I actually met Metallica 23 years ago when I was 17...I'd say Metallica!
:D
-
oldies, I listen to the 40's station when I want to hear oldies. I consider anything from 1981 forward as new music. yet there is music being recorded today which is immediately recognizable as a classic, just as there always has been.
I wonder at times if the music of the late 1960s-mid 1970s will still be played and enjoyed two hundred years hence as much as the work of mozart, chaupin, et al is today?
I'm amazed that my 16 yr old asks me for CDs from my stash because he thinks the music is cool. when I was his age I had zero interest in my dad's music with the exception of a few tunes. I remember enjoying "in the mood" and ravel's bolero most of the stuff by the ink spots, billie holiday, beny moré perhaps a few others but mostly I was disinterested.

Anything made before I went to High School (1975) is an oldie.
-
:noid anything older then Iron Butterfly:eek:
-
anything before 1965 or there abouts... after that I call it "classic rock" or "early pop" or "disco" or "flower power music" depending on the song..
I know, I'm weird
exception... something by a band that came out before then, but recorded after, like late year beatles i still call "oldies"

The pioneer of modern two-handed tapping is Dave Bunker.

Again, I was thinking about this the other day. What happens when I become old? What will my oldies station sound like?
Will it have snoop dogg on it?
Will the newer music stations sound even more radical?
-
I heard the song to the Cartoon " The banana splits" last week. Couldn't get it out of my head for a week.
-
Will it have snoop dogg on it?
Hope not.
Will the newer music stations sound even more radical?
Yes.

I'm waiting for Slayer to be on the 'oldies' station.

I remember that sad day when they played Echo and the Bunnymen on the radio and called it an "oldie". :(

That's a scary thought, refrain some such things in the future for everyone's sanity.
"Oldies" Are songs pre 1980 that I don't care for or are "alright" such as The Beach Boys.
"Classic Rock" Is that period from about 1970-1980 of music that I enjoy (Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Creedance Clearwater Revival)
Iron Maiden type metal is one of the only good things out of the 80's.
I was born in '89 so anything after that is still fairly new I guess.
-
WIth the exception of Nilson. Most of you people :lol
-
Actually
1975 and earlier - Rock and Roll
1975 to about 1985 - A god forsaken wasteland of ear bleed inciting trash.
After 1985 all new to me.
-
Otis Redding
Wonderfull songs Like (Sitting on the dock of the bay)
I was born in 1980 so i dont know much about the Oldies but my pops always had it on his radio but I also like the The Richeous Brothers. Since my dad was In Viet Nam All of the songs from 1965to 1970 I think I have herd the most.

Ever wondered why there's no 'Classic rap' stations anywhere?
Food for thought.
