Title: Joystick Problems - Logitech Interceptor
Post by: 54Rigger on November 01, 2000, 04:21:00 PM
Problem:

joystick inputs "freeze"

Explanation:

when flying the inputs are intermittently unresponsive or alternatively they "stick"  for example if I try a gentle roll adjustment and the joystick sticks in the midst of the adjustment,  then I will continue to roll until the "sticking" hasa elapse,  usually a few seconds.  opposite stick movements or any other buttoon, rudder , or throttle inputs are completely ignored

I am running a system as follows
m/b -Asus CUV4X
proc - PIII 800
mem -128megs
vid - Asus Geforce deluxe
HD - 2 Quantum CR series ATA 66
sound1 - SB Live PLatinum 5.1
sound2 - SB pci 128
Joy - Logitech wingman interceptor w/ TM pedals

I have tried using my joystick through both gameports (other is always disabled) and only in AH do I have this problem all other flight sims on my system works fine.  I have disabled polling with interrupts,   I have reinstalled AH several times,   I have reinstalled sound card drivers several times,  I have reinstalled DX 7.0a several times,  I have all the latest drivers, this problem is persistant and unchanging under every configuration I have tried.   and yes I  have tried re-calibration both within windows and within AH

I don't know, sounds like you've tried most of the likely suspects.  (Why 2 soundcards?)

The only thing I might suggest is updating the Logitech drivers and software to the newest version.

I use 2 soundcards because second is for voicecoms,   and I have of course updated joystick drivers and programs to latest versions.    I must suspect this is an AH issue as it is absent from all other Flight sims loaded on my computer (6)

If you can, try connecting the stick via USB.  You might also make sure that one of your soundcards is not in PCI slot 1.  (The slot closest to the AGP slot.)

The interesting thing is that it works fine in other games.  Try uninstalling AH (make sure you manually delete the settings folder), then reinstall.

There are about 3 other people on this board that are having problems with Logitech joysticks.  (I own a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3d, but have no problems with it whatsoever.)  I'm using the software version that came on the CD (3.25.384).  It may be an issue with AH, but I doubt it.  The fact that it only effects a few players using Logitech sticks points to an incompatibility/driver issue with certain soundcards.  This is why I suggested USB if it is an option for you.  Have you tried the stick on the other soundcard's gameport?

Good luck!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Ok here is my system:
I have a soyo MB 133 mz with a 600eb III.
Ultra v770 agp, SB Live card pci, ethernet card realtek 8029 pci, 8bit game port,
2 ibm ata66 20gig drives,
I connect thru my network connection for DownLoad and a standard isp for Up Load using the Hughes satilite network.
Seems fine running AH under windows 98, although i occasionaly get some intermitten lock ups. Have not identified if this is Video problem or other issue on my system.
After upgrading to W2k, ive never had success with my wingman extreme digital, or my Thrustmaster Platnium, or my usb Top Gun JS. I can run other fighter sims fine in this configuration but not AH. I delete config files each time and follow installation procedures but to no avail.
Gota run but i will post more later

Gentlemen....

You are aware that the Logitech Interceptor is a 'digitial' JS and the TM rudder pedals are 'analog' and that the two do not mix.

Logitech even says this is the case and that this combo will be unpredictable in its functioning.

I have the Logitech Wingman Interceptor and it is NOT USB.  This is an anolog joystick.  I was having major problems with mine until I unhooked my MS Sidewinder steering wheel (which is USB)  Now I can use my stick!...I still can't get the built in throttle to work though  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

RPMAW is correct that analog/digital combos sometimes (usually) have problems, but the Interceptor is definatly analog....unless it's been changed since I got mine ? ? ?
