Title: Laser Sights for Hunting

I'm not a hunter, but with all the emphasis on red or green laser gun sights for home defense and sometimes plinking, just curious whether any of you use laser sights for hunting?  

Especially if combined with magnification, laser sights apparently are the ultimate, aren't they?  

Maybe it's the popularity of bow hunting and black powder gun hunting, but I get the idea that not many hunters are using laser sights.  What is your take on that?

I don't think many hunters use laser sights. It's a home/personal defense thing.

They do use red dot sights but these don't project on to the game. They just substitute a red dot for the crosshair. They are short range/fast alignment sights. Turkey hunters use them, for example.

Projecting laser sights are illegal to use here for hunting.  For muzzle loaders it's iron sights only.

The laser sights only work in a short-range scenario, Halo.

If you have to shoot at any kind of range (200 yrds. or more) Alot of rifles start to have so much Bullet drop over distance, that the sight is showing the red dot over the impact point. Plus, over anything over 50 yrds. can you even see the dot on the target? Does it even show up enough at that range to paint?

To me, it seems that aimpoint/Laser sights are a short-range, tactical entry item only.

I dont use any, But for early squack season this could be handy on a .22 .17 pistol when all the leaves are on and most shoots are close .

If you need a laser for target acquisition, you should set the firearm down.

Collimators (laser sights, and range finders) have been employed very effectively for aiming weapons for 2 decades now. But that's not target aquisition.

Red dot sights are lovable because you can aim with both eyes open. Laser sights are the bomb because you can aim your weapon without snuggling with it. Non visible laser sights after the sun goes down are the bees knees in the breeze.

They also give your posdition away.    IMO, they ARE NOT worth the money for Home Defense.

They are not needed for anyone to shoot with to be accurate. I bought a red dot sight for my shotgun just to play with and it was kind of weird feeling so I sold it to my uncle who is beginning to have a hard time focusing on the sights on his shotgun and he loves the thing.

I've read a lot of negative about the p22. Which makes me think that the p99 is probably also way over priced.
