Title: Valid Tactic or New Degree of Lameness
Post by: sgt203 on April 09, 2007, 10:56:46 PM
Was flying Bish today in LW Orange off of a CV.

There was a heck of a good CV battle going on by Rook Base and Port.

As im taking off from CV alas incoming C-47 at around 9K.

Sure enough out pop the troops Puffy Ack and ship guns immediately begin firing on the dropping troops.

Now no enemy planes made it to the CV but had this been better coordinated planes could have approcahed the CV without haviung to worry about the ack.

The question is:

Valid Tactic or Completely Lame Gameplay

My Vote

LAME

One the one hand, it's rather lame...

On the other, any country that lets a goon into it's airspace at 9k undetected deserves to have it's ack occupied for 5 minutes.

On the feakishly mutated 3rd hand, any pilot with the patience to get a goon to 9k and be undetected by the enemy deserves to drop his troops.

It's lame but... someone let him do it.  Same as dropping them over an airfield.

It's lame when your on the receiving end, but a valid tactic if you manage to pull it off. You know that's how the game is played.

What makes it even worse however is you coming to the board and posting about, because now every lame noob that likes to try crap like that is going to go out and do it.

Valid Tactic or Completely Lame Gameplay

My Vote

LAME

Only 9K is lame... s/he should have dropped those troops @ 15K+ to keep the ship guns busier longer. Even better is multiple troop sets at 20K spaced out evenly.

Simple solution too:

Jump in ship gun and wait for those nice big juicey bombers to come in and rack up kills.

The C-47 is the slowest, worst climbing, least defended thing in the game; its meat hanging on a string: and people are complaining about it?

Actually it's exploitation of a known bug. It's been reported to HTC at least a once, maybe more.

I believe it was Ripsnort who once organized a mass c-47 drop that so bogged down the server that it crashed.

Perk the C47!

Gaming the game?

I don't think so.  Man a gun.

How did a 9K C-47 get that close to a CV anyway??

Better yet. Drop troops from a goon from a very high alt over the enemy HQ. Boy that pisses them off. This is hardly a new tactic.

What would of been really funny is if the fleet had been mostly deacked already, the troops landed miraculously on the cv and other ships, and the fleet was captured.

Then some people would be REALLY pissed off!

He was probably tired of people running to CV ack.

Like the vulching hoard dweebs that up off a CV only when someone announces that they have a vulch going, then the too-timid-to-fight-because-my rank-might-suffer-in-a-real-fight crowd shows up.

They like having the CV close inshore...Not for spawning LVT's, but to run home to mama when someone get's up off the field and airborne.

CV ack shooting at paratroops? Right on. The vulch dweebs have to figure out how to stay alive and land their kills for a coupla minutes.

lame, and exploiting.  a clear case of using something in the game for what it was NOT intended for, for the purpose of gaining an advantage that should never exist.  you can spin it anyway you want, as many will.

on the other hand, how does a goon get there in the first place?  man some people must be really slacking.  also, will we start to see more and more of this tactic.....maybe some mass goon raids dropping meat bombs?  ahh been awhile.

What’s the next thing?  Bailed chute/pilots spawn point vulching with their 45s?

“Whaaa!  I spawned on a de-acked runway in a 262 and some chute-dude was standing right there waiting for me and popped me in the head with his 45!  Whaaa!”
Title: Valid Tactic or New Degree of Lameness

Ack doesn't need to shoot at troops anyway, even if the troops are dropping for the right reasons.

Not sure why, but I am one of the lucky ones that maintains an extreme attraction from puffy ack. It seems as if puffy often ignores my wingmen in closer range and continues to fire at me. I usually find myself in tower from a single hit and within 4-5 blasts. So now when I hear aaa, I run FAST.

Have aaa fire at chutes as accurately as it fires at me= NO PROBLEM

Probably one of my squadies.  Funny as he11, but not in the spirit of the game.  But then, neither are the pilots who habitually try to HO.  You just have to deal with it.

It's been done, more than once.

In fact, when the 45s came out I remember seeing a pilot get huge kill totals by walking onto the runway spawn point. Whenever a plane spawned, it "collided" with him and he got kill credit.

Think they closed that loophole, though/

Per HT, puffy ack hit% is related to three factors: Airspeed (faster is safer); Range (farther is safer); and G-load (Pulling Gs means you're "harder to track").

Puffy ack is NOT aimed, since HT said all aiming methods he's programmed in his career either were Insta-Death (tm) accurate, or Blind-Man-on-the-Trigger stupid. Hits are based on an odds calculation, period.

I'm rarely ever pinged -- and I stay safe by keeping it fast, and pulling some Gs right before the next puff is due to go off.

Every holiday.  We crashed the server a couple times when the target didn't get enough defenders out in time.  Mostly we all died long before we got to the base.

The NOE Ride of the Valkyries was a VMF 323 highlight.

When that happens, keep spinning donuts with the CV to add some fun to it all.    I watched a trainwreck on that CV that was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. Planes crashing and falling over the sides, paratroopers battling CV ack, angry yelling on range....ohhh good times:lol

Here's another way to game the game...

If your boat is being punished by the shore battery, jump in a 5" and shoot the water near your ship.. s/he wont be able to tell which "splash" is which.

Its gut busting laughter watching whoever adjust fire on your splash.
