Title: When will F6F Hellcat cockpit be finished?
Post by: halcyon on April 10, 2007, 07:59:09 PM
It's one of my favorites.
It's been in the game a long time.
It's definately a plane that made history.

Please finish the cockpit? It would make me happy go go if you did so.

The look of the cockpit (for me at least) is a big part of the simulation experience.  If a plane has a really good looking cockpit, I fly it more ie; spit, mustang, and more now than ever the F4U.  If the Hellcat's cockpit was realistic looking I would fly it a whole lot more.

And speaking of F4U, why does the C model still have a crappy old style cockpit?

PLEASE DONT UPDATE THE CHOG OR F6F Cockpit any time soon!!!!!!!!!  They are fine the way they are.......No need to pork them.

YES please update the F6F!!! The hogs look great even though the views are a bit harder to work just right, but the good thing about the F6F is there is pretty much no way you could make the rear view any worse. I would like a more "realistic" look. It's one of my all time favorites(even before I ever heard of AH).

they didn't update the C hog because they were going to do away with it. Heard they were going to set up a different weapons load up set-up. You'd pick a hog, then if you wanted to add the cannons, it would have a perk cost, but still use the same plane as the D I guess.

Oh yeh, that makes sense. Would have thought they'd just use the same updated cockpit for the c in the meantime.. cant be that hard. But what do i know? :D

No the F6F cockpit is not fine the way it is.
It looks terrible.
I'd like to see an authentic F6F cockpit.

Yeah, same deal with Ta - 152.

Not to gripe or anything, but it would be really nice.

It's selfish, but that's why I voted against the yak3...  I fly the yak9u pretty much exclusively, and I didn't want them to redo the yaks and add in huge canopy struts to get in the way of my view.  :D

That's basically why I stopped flying the 109g2/f4/e...  I can't follow badguys in a dogfight with those ginormous canopy struts everywhere.  As long as they were going that far with it, they should've just gone ahead and taken out the glass and put in solid armor in every direction...  ;)

Add Temp/Typh to that list.

See the Chog was a plane in itself.  If they do away with it that's one issue.

If you can pick an choose the gun package that would be wrong :)  It was designed a a high altitude buff killer but they (Navy Logic) left the high altitude blower off the field issue Chog.

Its not just about updating the cockpit....

When a plane is updated the entire plane 3D model is updated including its cockpit.

So its not just about sticking the D cockpit to the C.

Im quessing the C will be gone with the upcomming patch.

The F6F is one of the planes that is really in the need of remake as it has mirrored textures which makes it really hard to skin. But Im guessing it wount happen anytime soon as we first need to get the B25.

So my guess is no sooner then 3-4 months.

I thought the Chog was a Dhog with 20mm instead of .50s?

F6F has one of the oldest looking cockpits and includes the wrong front arc with too long vertical bar. Also from the outside it looks dated compared to the new AHII standard.

Definitly one the leading candidates for graphical upgrade. I guess they'll do it and give us F6F-3 at the same time (like the F4u1A that came with the new hogs).

The Zero and the Hellcat probably the oldest planes.

imo The 152 has the most dated looks and should get fixed, but the F6 is more used so maybe it should take priority.

Hmm, good plan, but the Yak-3 is the one without the struts, and the Yak-9U is the one with them.

...oops. ;)

For example C.202, C.205 and Yak-9U are older than the Hellcat...La-5 too but it had a cockpit facelift in AHI.

There are still loads of planes to be redone. :( One good way to do them would be the order they were introduced.

N1K2-J, C-47A and B-26B are all v1.0 releases.  La-5FN is a slight upgrade over v1.0.

Hellcat and A6M5b came later.  v1.05 IIRC.

No, fix the ones that suffer the most in the FM department from the upgrade first (IMO)

Nah... The M3 is deffinately by far the most in need of an upgrad. I keep hitting my monitor with my beer when I go to set it down thinking I am putting it in a cup holder on the driver dash board view.

I dont have this problem with aircraft because there are all kinds of gages and switches and stuff in the view so I dont have any place to put my beer down on. :aok

You're drinking and driving troops?
Explains all the rolled M3s I keep seeing.

The cockpit canopy framework for the F4u depleted the iron supply. They are currently mining to replenish the stockpile to begin more framework on other planes.

The really strange thing is, the Ki-84, Fw190, Bf109s and the new P-47, P-38, F4Us have a very real feel of 'bulk' concerning cockpit frames. They are indeed a hinderance when compared to the older AH1 cockpits, but the specs seem to be real enough and people generally accept it as it is.

 But the Spits and P-51s...

...whenever I am in those two planes I wonder.. why is it that only these two planes have virtually zero-depth/bulk cockpit frames? All of the planes listed above - Ki84, 190, 109, P47, P38, F4U.. etc etc.. have a much more bulkier, more in-depth depiction of cockpit frames, but for some reason the P-51 and the Spitfire cockpit frames are as thin as old AH1 frames (on a relative scale).
