A shame a Hero has got to fight to get the medals he earned just because he's African-American.

Yup a damn shame. But with his last statement... makes me wonder, was he fighting for medals or for his country?

I believe if he deserved it he should have recieved it. It is something he is proud of. If he finally gets recognized for his bravery and it makes him happy, more power to him. America still needs heroes and should recognize them all.

Should it matter?

So he got the silver star and some medal from France, but "[HE???] believes he's earned a higher honor from his home country, the Distinguished Service Cross -- just one step removed from the Congressional Medal of Honor."
I never realized people got to pick out their own medals? Is there more to this story than meets the eye (ie, was he recommeneded for the DSC or something?)

He shouldn't have been born a second class citizen.

Sure looks like an M-26 Pershing to me.

Um, I don't know this guy from Adam..but a couple things occur to me.
The only source that said he's being denied the medals because of
race is the article itself.
If he was in a recon unit, they are naturally going to have smaller tanks
than a line unit. M3s and M5 Stuarts are ideal for recon..being fast and
agile. It's not like they said "Let's make a small tank just for Blacks..yeah,
that's the ticket!"
He may be right about his awards, I have no idea. But the story is
being told mostly to suit a particular agenda IMHO.

At the time he was fighting for himself and for his buddies.
