I decided to upgrade my drivers to get better performance in other games, unfortunately it screwed my sounds in AH. Heres what I did: Installed VIA4in1 4.37, upgraded to DX8.1, lowered sound debug level with DXaplet. Then when I tried AH I could hear cracks and other disturbances in sounds. Of course I tried to increase debug level and also upgraded sound card drivers, but it didnt help.
I had no other choice but to put everything back the way they were including uninstallation of dx8.1. Now everything should be back the way the were, but sounds haven't improved, is there any solution except using a sledgehammer?
edit: system specs:
AMD 1.2
ASUS a7v133
SB PCI128
Ge-farse 2 GTS
WIN98SE
320MB
DX8.0a
VIA4in1 4.35

did you try reinstalling AH?

I did...........

What does your IRQ distribution look like? Are there any conflicts with your sound card?
What soundcard are you using? What drivers did you update, your sound drivers or your video drivers? What version of the Detonators are you running?
You should be using Detonator 7.78 drivers with that card if you want it all to work smoothly.

No IRQ conflicts AFAIK, my sound card is SoundBlaster 128PCI. Im using Detonator 23.11 drivers(newest), and graphics are very smooth. I tried the drivers you suggested, but they didn't help this condition.

What was the driver update you mention making before this occurred in the first place?
-
Well I installed newest VIA4in1(4.37) drivers and DX8.1. Im not sure which one those was the one that caused these problems. After discovering sound problems I uninstalled DX 8.1 with DirectXBuster, and also installed older VIA4in1 drivers.
I heard that newest VIA drivers have been causing sound problems, but reverting to older ones didn't help.

I just remembered that I have also had some pauses in graphics. They last about 1 sec and happen randomly but usually in 2 minute intervals. I think that the pauses started at the same time with the sound problems.
