PROPOSAL
To establish a ROOK squad alliance to effectively
marshall our forces into a cohesive, coordinated
fighting force under a unified command.
EXECUTION
Squadron commanders would register their squad and meet on
the Rook War Department squad channel each evening to confer with
other squad leaders on how best to employ their
respective forces to win the war.
Strategies could combine the efforts of a ground vehicle
assault, bomber mission and fighter interceptor mission
all operating according to a coordinated plan under a unified
command. More simply, missions could consist of merely
launching multiple attack missions from multiple bases
to overwhelm and capture a target. In all cases,
the strategy would be up to the day's strategic commander
and squadron commanders would be tasked with various roles
and missions within the overall strategic plan.
COMMAND
Overall strategic command would rotate between
squadron commanders who lead squads that have at
least 10 active players. Strategic command would
alternate on a nightly basis and would be in
alphabetical order based on squad name (excluding
non-alphanumeric characters).
I personally do not command a squad and will not
be leading any missions or participating in strategic
or tactical decision making. This will be the
responsibility of the Strategic Commander of the day
in consultation with the other participating squadron
commanders.
The arena for operations will be determined after we get
this thing up and running.
OPERATIONS
Squadron commanders and the Strategic Commander will
be on the same VOX channel. Individual squadron commanders
will maintain voice communications with their squads using
local range VOX or text.
REGISTER
Rook squadron commanders who would like to participate
in such an endeavor or who would like to help me get it
off the ground please let me know.
Squadron commanders that want to participate should
contact me via private message.
Please provide the following information when you
register.
1) Squadron Name
2) Squadron C.O.'s Name
3) Squadron C.O.'s email address
4) Number of ACTIVE players in your squadron.
5) Website Address (if you have one)
6) Preferred Arena
After I have a cadre of interested squadrons, we will
kick off operations and meet on a designated VOX
channel (to be emailed to squadron C.O.s).
I counted 16 squadrons operating as rook in LWOrange
and 15 in LWBlue. If I get a decent response
and we actually get operations rolling then I will go
forward with some needed assets (website,
downloadables, etc). If there isn't much interest
then at least I tried. :)

We have been doing this for about 2 years in Bish land. Come on over and have some real fun !

Thought RJO night was legendary? Get a massive Rook horde, take the map in about two hours, some guy on the BBS six months later claims exclusively that he reset a map in 2 hours.
Always maxed the numbers out, had one overall commander. I'd up something fly one base ahead of the masses so I could get some action. RJO was unstoppable.
Was a hoot.
:aok

96Delta,
You trying to get the ENY thingy made even more irritating then it is? Along with more arenas with even smaller caps? Weren't these measures part of the response to JSO, super squads, and the growth that lead up to them in the first place? I know my avatar points out I'm a short bus dude...:noid

I believe that is speculation on your part.
I don't recall Hitech giving that as a reson for the split.
If I'm wrong, please point me to the thread where
he explained that as the rationale.
Besieds, my concern is to get more fun out of
the game. This fly-shoot-land stuff is getting
quite boring. I need more challenge and I enjoy
working in a mission format. Maybe other people do also?

You could do a lot more than take a base with coordinated squadron efforts.
- A coordinated run of bombers and JABOs could hit all the strats against an enemy to basically shut down their offensive operations. Troops, ord, fuel, dar, strat factories, cities, HQ. You find yourself with no ords, no way to resup, 75% fuel and no DT"s, and are effectively blind, while strat factories are all under 50% effectiveness.
- Fighter squadrons could escort these bombers and attack planes, or be detailed to conduct fighter sweeps of an area and gain air superiority.
- Other fighter squadrons could be detailed as ready alert interceptors. Do whatever in-game until the call goes out about an enemy raid, attack, bomber mission..... they are automatically detailed to respond.
- The fact that for an evening you have a "Supreme Allied Commander" directing major operations (and hopefully avoiding micromanaging the squadrons beyond perhaps making missions, and letting his/her squadron XO handle the squad itself for a night.... so as to pay attention to his duties that night) can draw in additional unaffiliated or underrepresented squad members into those missions for a night.
One point: Having a SAC every night might be way too ambitious in the beginning. Might be better to call for SAC days/nights a few days each week, and avoid, maybe FSO, or other event nights.
Each SAC can work out his own system. Just posting missions, giving squadrons missions goals to accomplish on their own, post one at the top of every hour. Whatever.

Which again would effect the ENY because then the particular country that is getting hit, most would log/switch arenas, which does what kids?? That's right, raise the ENY.
Look I'm all for those who like the team work thing, hey, it's your money. But when doing something like this, just think about the outcome for the arena, not just those who participated in doing the "damage".
That's what a lot of people had against LCA was they did nothing but kill the fighter hangars, and ruined the fun for those who actually want to shoot something that actually shoots back.
P.S. Let me know when this is going on so me and my squaddies can go to another country or arena, so we can still have our fun :lol

Coordinated horde vs Coordinated horde is fun to me.
I dunno about the base takes, but the most fun I've EVER had playing AH, was in an FSO.
Roughly 35 zekes vs 35 F4Fs @ 15-20k. All one big ball of flame, death and glory. It was absolutely amazing. I'll do my best to dig the film up.
Fighter Sweeps= I'm game
Rolling underdefended bases= Not so much:aok

knights unify please come to the aid of the cause........hmmmmmmmmm seems funny now huh..........

The rooks are good pilots and I enjoy flying there. If this horde like mentality grows like it has been the past couple of weeks during the day with 20+ players we will have to frequent Knights again.

You weren't when I was a bish. Bish wouldn't even talk to each other on range! You knew who the FNG was, because he was giving "Check Six" calls.

*sniff*
brings back the memories of the good ol' RJO days..!
:cry
-
It's ok Knights and Bishops. I can create more "Candy Mountain Mishuns" which utilize Early War Aircraft or Mid War Aircraft. Last time I made one, we had 46 Stukas. :aok
We don't "roll bases" either. They are done for BOTH Sides to have fun.
-
What? Rooks working together! What are you? New?
;)
-
While you ninja super dupers mishuns against bish nit taking half of map on your back because you'll have no one to defend.
-
whats challenging about NOT taking a base??
hmm 2nd time in as many days that i seen somebody try the "reverse the role" thing and it just not work.
-
uh oh, not again

You should become familiar with several of our Special Events that run through the week. Many of them are just what you are looking for.
I recommend Close Escort or Snap Shots. They are walk-on events and you could even be the commander of your country, it rotates.
I believe you would have more enjoyment there as opposed to trying to herd a rook horde around the map in D3A's and P-40's because ENY porked your hangars.

P.S. See siggy for linky
-
I usually enjoyed the old Sunday night RJOs. However, organizing on anything but a one night a week basis will create the super-squads that contributed to the break-up of the MA. That, we don't need.
My regards,
Widewing

Bishland usually ARE the horde, at least in one of the two LW arenas. Knits numbers usually portend Red-Headed-Stepchild comments.

Thanks Virage.
I just shop my ideas around on the boards.
I've found that the 10% of players who
visit and are the most vocal are an excellent
contrarian indicator.
If it gets shouted down here, it is destined to become
very popular within the larger gaming community.
I'm encouraged! :D
