between the DARK ground and the BRIGHT sky is TOO MUCH!!!!
I've tried with 1.0 gamma all the way to 1.8 gamma.
It gives me a headache no matter where I set the gamma.
If this is how Aces High is going to remain I have NO CHOICE. I will have to quite.
I will not fly if it gives me a headache.
If I can't fly then there is no longer a reason to pay for access/support HTC and Aces High.
You will have lost a LONG time customer due to the color contrast choosen.
:( :( :( :cry
-
:huh Didn't you just post a thread whining about the gamma? and the darkness? why did you re-post?
-
Hopefully different color settings will be tried. I too felt wozy while flying. And I wasnt even drinkin!
-
After 1 hour of play my eyes were hurting, mite be the contrast, nothing I tried helped. Have not had this problem before, In GV's hard to see anything.
-
And I wasnt even drinkin!
Clearly not a Game Fault. Just drink more!
Worked for me
-
I think this is way more an issue with tweaking.
Guys you probably logged 100000000 hours over the last what 5 years? with the old terrain and contrast, gamma settings. You were used to how it was and you need to adapt!!!!
Personally I havent downloaded it yet and i'm itching to get home ASAP but i'm sure HTC wouldnt release something where you cannot adjust either
1) the gamma settings on your card
2) the level of contrast on your monitor
3) any in game settings to your liking
I bet it will look so sweet 22" widescreen, hir res pack, 1680 x 1050 !
Bring it on
:aok
-
No, it's not that "we're used to it." I've played many simulators over the years, and this is by far the worst color scheme I've seen in one. It needs to be made more like the previous version.
-
Bruv is correct. I adjusted gamma to about 1.3 and my Viewsonic Monitor Bright to 3x and the game looks very clear. At default settings it was 'way too dark.
Tweaking it is possible.

You could be correct.
However I tried adjusting my monitor brightness, contrast etc..............
no help............
Tried setting gamma in AH..............
no help............
For me it's the CONTRAST between the sky and the ground that is creating the problem.
The going back and forth between the darkness and brightness.
Otherwise the actual patch is GREAT IMHO.
-
It ALL still looks good on my screen. Maybe you still need a new one.
NOT
-
Jeez don't be so dramatic. Drama queen.
It is the first patch since they brought the new terrain out, of course it isn't going to be perfect.
-
Same here Not 19inch LCD hi-def ACER monitor looks like a brand new and improved aces high!!!
Mabey wrag is just old with bad eyes:noid

Husky01 what is your problem?
A little note for your use.
IF a business, any business, finds itself in a situation that COULD result in the LOSS of customers, especially long time customers, because of something like the contrasting colors they have chosen, I would think they would want input!
Driving away customers does NOT a business create!
Further I will post as much as I want about this issue, if you don't want to read about it ignore my post.
I NOW get a headache from AH. I did not before.
I very greatly enjoy AH and have been a customer for a LONG time. I am trying to remain a customer. If that requires 50 post on the subject expect 50 post!
-
If I adjust to get the ground light enough to see terrain edges, the sky is super bright. Played a couple hours and the eyes were straining.
-
The ground is way to dark even with the sun at high noon.

Could you give them a chance to respond, maybe?

The first threat to quit whine over this change in the game has been recorded.
-
Less than 24 hours since the new release, they haven't had time to respond, never mind make any changes, and you start talking about closing your account. That's just plain absurd and childish. If there's a problem, they'll FIX IT. They ALWAYS have. Give it at LEAST a day or two. Hell, give them time to post in response.

Heh.
Honestly, I flew for about 1.25 hours last night, and this morning's diatribes are the first warning I've had that I should be suffering from a headache. I like the new terrain. The clouds are beautiful, the windmills are cute, and I had no trouble with brightness issues interfering with the fights I had. Best of all, it seems to me that the frame rates have noticeably improved.

Many have responded.
Some have even been rather insulting with that response.
The different threads were created over a period of time.
Wasn't sure what the problem was at 1st.
Posted even so.
After trying every way I could to make AHII more EYE COMFORTABLE, and failing, I finally realized it the colors, or shades of colors combined. So I posted again.
HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Studies have been made!
VAST amounts of money has been spent!
All to discover certain combinations of colors make people uncomfortable, can produce eye strain, make individuals irritable, etc............
So why not benefit from the money others have already spent?
IF you KNEW that the colors you used in your PC SIM actually pushed customers AWAY, made them uncomfortable, maybe even irritable, made them STOP paying you, wouldn't you want to know?

It's NOT a threat!
It's a FACT!
If the game/sim colors/shades combinations produce HEADACHE's then it is, or will eventually becomes, UNPLAYABLE!
If I can't enjoy AH because it gives me headaches then why pay for it?
I will have NO CHOICE!
You sound young and in good health SIR.
Calling my statement a whine and a threat to quite if I do not get what I want is a misunderstanding of the facts!
I don't want to quite.............. but I may have no choice:(
-
i didn't fight last night, i took a jeep tour of the country side, hedgerows are nice touch, good for tank ambushes, the forests are dark and deep, you can get lost in them. new buildings are nice look very european, bridges have stone walls.
-
I have not experienced any headache problems at all with this version, and as most of you know, I spend several, and I do mean "several" hours daily on Aces High. I thought the sky in the old patch was too bright, especially when flying into the sun.

If you are a long time customer than you know HT will do his best to fix problems with the sim. Me young,,,, far from it. Just give them time. Threating to cancel your account before the new version is 24 hours old and no patches have been put out strikes me as whine. Hang in there give them a little time.:)
-
I didn't notice any problems. However the ground has got a lot of brown shading in it, more than before, but at least it breaks up the vivid green.
I like the beaches, but maybe a little more randomness on the tiling would break up the 'stamp' effect when looking down the coast.
It's really hard to get an organic look when your tiles are the size they are in this game.

I can see where that could be possible.
I admit I am reacting with allot of activity.
Most probably because I GREATLY ENJOY this sim.
I don't wish to be drivin away due to something as SEEMINGLY trivial as color/shading combinations.
I do want AH to continue to grow and prosper.
Thus I react with considerable activity to what I see as a problem that could destroy my enjoyment of, and hurt the business of, Aces High.
Again it's NO THREAT, I can NOT fly in AH at this time.
Yes I intend to wait.
How long depends VERY greatly on the response HT and company puts forth.

I liked the changes, then again I'm not running a high end machine, so I'm less apt to disappointment. :D
-
HT needs to fix the color/contrast..
I played for 3 hrs last night and found it hard to see planes and GV's against the new sky and ground.
-
Tried it.
Didn't have to touch any settings except the in game gamma by putting it up some.
Love the extras and think its a good job all round.
Thanks for the effort HTC its much appreciated.
-
I think that HTC should leave it exactly how it is...
-
I've no problems with this patch.
I am Red/Green Color blind and have had to adjust each patch. With this current patch...I did not have any adjusting. Kudos to HTC and Crew!
-
Hi chaps!
I noticed the dark ground, felt very unease, like if I had lost depth percepcion, in here, altitude perception...Strange...
Also strange was the way I blew up 3 109s and 1 P40 in a single Zeke sortie in EW...You know me, I'm a bad shooter!
Looks like 109s are blowing up too easy...Not that I complain about it...Doh, should have kept my mouth shut!!!!
Cheers,
Sparrow

Heheheh I was in a jeep for 25 min I got headache, left in 45 min...:noid

Buildings reflect the sunlight like before, but the earth just seems to suck it. Sun is bright white from sunrise to sunset, but it seems impotent. It does not light the ground or planes like before. It is difficult to tell whether one sees the bottom or the top of the enemy plane nearby.
The water looks like on a cold cloudy day, but at the same time the sky is blue and bright, although quite hazy when climbing higher.
Even at sunset and sunrise the moon has some darker spots than the "night sky" around it. That makes the moon look more like a nearby balloon.
Otherwise there are many nice new things. Bases look much nicer and trees are fine too... if they only weren't so dark, and so evely organized in the forrests.
All these textures and colors may look ok separately, but unfortunately they are not from the same day and time of day or even from same season. The whole becomes confusing.
-
Keep the water.
Rework the land tiles.
Overall it's got some good points. I stopped and told a squaddie "dude, sweet! check out the transition of that treeline on that hill!"

I do not agree , It's so dark, that game play for me is almost impossible to judge depth, I hit the water and the deck in almost all low furballs :( , its to drab olive-green and the sea is way to dark .
I called Skuzzy for help, He offered up a gama adjustment fix, I tried it and it helps somewhat.
Lot's of work went into this new stuff and I'm sure the HTC crew will get it fixed up in short time ......

Guess what ... changing the gamma in Aces High doesn't just apply to Aces High II. It applies to everything. So, now all of my games look too bright except Aces High, which still looks funny because the black things are grey.

Mine looks good as is.

Are you changing the gamma from within Aces High? If you do that, it applies only to Aces High.

Nope. Set the slider to one extreme, alt-tab out of Aces High, and look at your desktop. Now set it to the other and look again.

Sorry, it's not an issue of GETTING USED TO IT...
It's an issue of headaches, and after seeing this post I realized that I too had a massive headache both nights when I finished playing.
I think the ground looks like ****. At first I was impressed with varying terrain features such as fields etc...but last night I didn't see a darn thing. Just an occasional bush followed by forests.
(Dark green blots on an already dark green ground with an occasionally dark green blog)
Personally, I'm with this guy, I'm quiting in a month if they don't change this. It's ridiculous, looks NOTHING.......I REPEAT, NOTHING like real life...
Looks like a cheesy arcade game now. If I were in the meeting were someone proposed those colors, I would have to reach across the table and smack whomever suggested it as they clearly do not have a clue as to how things should look.
-
I agree. Anyone who says that things look "more realistic" or "better" either is badly in need of spectacles or is being deliberately perverse and contrary.
-
Sorry, it's not an issue of GETTING USED TO IT...
Then don't play Im tiered of you crying about it if it gives you headaches don't play if you don't like it DON'T PLAY. Man your like a 3 year old whinnin and yelling about it look im sure HTC is working on some way to help the darkness and the greenishness of the terrain but man give them time to react! Threatening to leave after 1 day of the new version is ludicrous. HTC is a small company and want the best for there costumer's they have a small staff and it will take them at least a week to fix it to some extents please stop whinnying give HTC a lil time to work on the problem.
Sorry for the out burst folks im just supper tiered of the crying HTC is most likely working a way to fix it so just be patient and bare with them for a while
:aok
Again sry for the out burst just relieving some frustration

I'm relatively patient and understanding in regards to bugs. What I have no patience for are the fools who try to insist that bugs don't exist, or that they're neat features, or that since they don't notice the bugs then they are not important. Those people are perverse - they take delight in a state of wrongness. They make the world stink.

You sort of assume here that you're naturally right and those who think that the bugs don't exist (or are unimportant) and the features are nice, are either peverse or blind, and are fools either way.
I think that this sort of arrogance makes the world stink.

*sighs*
Just give them time, the colors are a bit too dark.
They are not supper dark, they are also not CARTOON like before.
But everything looks more real, color tone/tint wise.
Whats missing is lighting.
Would be a nice touch if clouds would cast a "basic" shadow below them.
"Shrugs"
To each his own, i have seen worse.
I do belive this is some kind of "bug" rather than the textures them selfs.
When the patch first came out, i remember siting on the field in my firefly..bunch of people sayin' how everything was to dark, then all of a sudden the world got bright again "like back in the old days" about 15 mins later,it got real dark-ER again.
So MABY..just maby it is more of a time/rendering error than the maps being to dark themselfs.
For whatever it's worth "Throws two cents"

So you KNOW how another persons system is set up?
So you KNOW the physical conditon of the other person?
So you KNOW that absolutley no one that participates in AH has any physical problems, eye problems, lack of computer knowledge, and they all must be like you, or have systems just like yours?????
HOT NEWS FLASH!!!
There are people that enjoy AH from a wheelchair, have poor eyesight, are NOT very computer literate, are in some way physically impaired, don't have GOOD flight controls, the list goes on....................
another point!
They pay MONEY to participate...... probably sounds strange to you but this TENDS to make them feel they have a right to complain.
It's just possible that the crew at AH have grown to expect such reactions.
When dealing with the public such things are the norm rather then the exception.
The attitude I THINK you are displaying SEEMS like one of a FANBOY. (thats nice but I'm pretty sure HTC and crew are VERY CAPABLE of taking care of themselves!!!!!)
Threats were NEVER made by me. I stated FACT!
While I have found a cure for my problems others are still having similar problems.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO YOU HUSKY1: :furious
Who are you to take such an attitude toward those that are having trouble?
Who are you to tell US what to think and what to do?
Are you going to start PAYING for our participation in AH?
Has it occured to you that if we do NOT complain, point out problems, report bugs, that nothing will change?
Has it occured to you that if many quit AH, as you SEEM to be incouraging, HTC will lose income? And AH will become LESS then what it is now?
IMHO you SIR are way out of line on this!
I like the new landscape but....
I DIDN'T know what it actually looked like because it was SOOOO DARK on my monitor.
Now that I can see it I think it's great!
(YOU WILL NOTE HERE: I NEVER SAID I DIDN'T LIKE THE LANDSCAPE, I DID OBJECT TO THE CONTRAST/GAMMA AND REPORTED I WAS GETTING HEADACHES FROM THE AH SETUP)
IMHO you SIR, perhaps, owe some people within the AH community an apoligy. (NO I neither want nor expect one from you SIR, as IMHO you don't know your backside from a hole in the ground, and therefore do not matter. Furthermore IMHO you're NOT thinking your reply through, instead you're FEELING it and then verbelizing those feelings)
Why?
Because as I have said over and over I GREATLY ENJOY AH!
Because I want to see it continue!
Because I want to see it grow! ( yaaaa even with all the NooBs that up la7's or spit16's and comence to HO'n everyone and everything LOL)
BTW many others that added their complaint/concern/problem report to this thread, and those I have spoken with online but have NOT yet added their complaint/concern/problem report to this thread, PROBABLY feel the same.
I DO NOT claim any sorrow whatsoever for this rant! Stilll got allot of RANT left about such people!!! (might not wanna get me goin here :( *$@#%&*$# :furious )

Right - but my statements are still quite true, and Hitech would do well to take note of them because paying customers are affected every bit as much as non-paying customers. And - unlike you - a lot of both paying and non-paying customers are noticing the problem.
-
Well , it depend, I always thought AH terrain was too bright.
And posted about some 5/6 year ago.
Now it look correct ,except none is used to it and so this is some whines.

Well, you've clearly never seen the ground from the air, then. For that matter, you've probably never seen the sun on the earth at all. Do you live in a cave, or just a really dense forest?
I really, really do not want to find my camera, leave my house, and drive to a place high enough for me to take pictures of the landscape on a sunny day, noon and dusk. But if you fruitcakes don't quit insisting that this darkness is "more realistic" or "better," I'm going to have to do just that.
-
Worked fine for me. I hope your head aches go away.

I'm neither perverse or contrary (at least in this context:D ) As I stated in another thread, I had no problems with darkness or headaches. It looks fine to me, bright and clear. It is more realistic and seems better to me. The colours are different and to me better. I'm a pilot in real life and to me it more closely resembles what I see from the air than the previous terrain at low and medium altitudes. At high altitudes it doesn't look so good. To me it's like some old style flight sims.
What is obvious is that some people are finding it too dark and lacking in detail while at the same time many like me do not. I lack the computer savvy to even speculate as to the cause. But it is evident to me that my computer set up is optimal in terms of graphics. Clearly for others it is not.
There is therefore an issue to be taken seriously and investigated and resolved. I guess I am lucky not to have come across the problem.
No doubt HTC will resolve the problem in time.

You do not see this?
Of course, if our monitors are drastically different, then you may see that picture differently than I do. To me, that picture's very dark; and all of my many other games look normal. I even checked that calibration thingy Skuzzy recommended, and it showed my settings to be correct.
Regardless, if that picture looks normal on your monitor, then a picture of a real landscape on a sunny day must look unbearably bright.

That is in fact slightly darker than I see in the game. In game the lighting is better. I guess I'm lucky. I only have a bog standard Dell flat screen monitor with an NVIDIA Geforce 6800 256mg which I haven't touched at all.
Clearly there is a issue affecting some machines. Perhaps a survey could be held to see who has problems and who has not. A pattern might emerge.

After asking around I think its a ATI related bug.
Nvidias get detail problems on fields.

Aye, those forests kill me now.
My Computer is a lump of **** though, so it's not a drastic degradation from the last version, i just fly a little higher and try and stay away from the forests :)
I'll update this thing sooner or later haha
It was frustrating to lose a kill lastnight because my computer dropped to 5 FPS whenever i got a kill shot on the Jug.
Oh well.

I'm bet'n it's your K, aka color temp!
Think it's set higher then his......................
You can set it in using your monitor menu. Contained within your color section of your monitor menu.

I took alot of film the past few days and compared it to old film. I came to the conclusion that it is not so much the color of the terrain that is broken it's a simple matter of light sourcing. If you look at the illumination of objects, planes and the terrain in previous versions compared to this one, the single biggest difference is the effect or lack thereof of light sourcing from the sun.
It seems to me now that all terrain, including water and other features get no meaningfull illumination from the sun. What small amount of illumination there is is not as "reflective" as it was, so the ambient contrast of illuminated surfaces vs. non-illuminated is very small. This is turn causes the depth perception and discrimination between the relative elevation of terrain surface problems..
All in all the terrain itself is quite good, and illuminated with proper light sourcing it would be a huge step forward visually. It seems a rather simple thing to fix, I am sure HTC has already made headway on it and it will be fixed shortly...

To me, the ugliest part of that pic is your F4U....the jaggies suck! :p
In all seriousness, though, I can see the subtle hills, trees, (both on the beach and more inland)
To me, it looks like a very rich area. I can count about 20 different shades of green and brown in that picture alone.
I don't know what everyone else is seeing, but to me it's damn near perfect.
I can even see several dots that may be worth investigating as they may be ground vehicles.
Do you just see a dark green smear or something?

I have noticed the darkness, and subsequently went to use a much hotter color temperature on my monitor, as well as bring up the gamma to 1.1 (anything higher and things wash out badly)... it is still very dark.
I'm sure they're looking into it and will have a fix shortly...
