Title: atmosphere
Post by: JB88 on April 13, 2007, 05:52:29 AM
wondering if the darkness that we are experiencing in the arenas may be a result of increasing the height or density of the atmosphere.  if so, could it be graded?... that is to say, progressively thinner @ higher altitudes.  i have been guessing that raising it to 100k feet may be why it has gotten so much darker.  is this the case?

so...

i've been tinkering with some color settings offline to try to find interesting combinations with our current atmosphere.

guessing that the ambient sky color would be more white on a cloudy day or in a dense fog...

well, okay...i have been asking for variations on the weather so i guess i got my wish.  :)

here is an example of another cloudy day configuration.  this one was a joy to fly in.  WEATHER!!!!  :D

Got an engine shot out and it soon quit. The base had clouds over it and between the clouds and oil on the windshield it was a challenge to land. Made the runway but crashed all the same. Adds a lot of realism to the game and gives you a place to hide and sneak up on the enemy. The moon rising through the clouds was awesome!
  :aok

Curious as to why atmosphere was raised to begin with.

Most bombing missions took place between 10-25K didnt they?

Or are we planning on doing some X-15 tests? LOL
but if I remember correctly even those tests were done at only 45 K

Maybe we are getting V-2s?

I can't play any game now without AA and AS turned on.. Try to at least run it at 2x and adjust some settings to get a consistant frame rate. It makes a huge difference in this game with the new cockpits and Hires skins.

shall do, thanks again.

sooo, hitech...any chance you might use these settings in the MA once in awhile so we can fly on a cloudy day?

been playing with "light" off line as well.

Whilst the  effect of "lush green" can be changed a little it is not as much as when we experienced something similar in the new Beta AHII.

I think HTC will have to consider a more light yellow/olive colour of base grass terrain tile.....

also looking at the ploughed fields they seem a very deep brown whereas a sandy brown may be more appropriate. Beaches are superb IMO.

Grey gravel under the hangers causes a wierd effect on my pc. I would rather the runway technique was extended to these areas.

Since I have only been flying in AHII for a couple of months I feel like dinner for the other pilots.LOL.  But there are some very helpful folks here and I enjoy flying  and dying just the same. Each death is a learning experience.:D

I'd like to see clouds have more of an effect, like maybe hide the icon altogether. Ducking through clouds, playing hide and seek with the bad guys is a lot of fun, but sorta cheapened by being able to pick up his con.

Also, the horizon still has the sun and moon rising/setting at the same position relative to your plane regardless of altitude.

Maybe all the need to do is turn the sun's intensity up a few notches? :)
