The atmosphere now extends to 100,000 feet instead of 50,000.
?
-
That means that the atmosphere now extends to 100,000 feet instead of 50,000 feet.
Hehe, no what it means is that IF you had a plane in the game that could even climb that high, it would be able to go higher than 50,000 feet, rather then just hit an invisible ceiling.
Now WHY they did this, I couldn't tell ya.
-
It's an improvement to the engine, which could in the future involve aircraft which can go above 50,000 feet.
-
Wonder what bird that would be?

go offline - set vertical windspeed to 200 and up a 163 .... wierd stuff happens at 100k rather than 50k now :)
-
The P-38L's ceiling was 44,000 feet. That's 6,000 feet away from the old ceiling. Now imagine if Korean War fighters were introduced.

Your plane goes Poof.

The old C47 bug back in AH1 was fun. Take off from one of the high alt bases on the uterus map and set it to autoclimb. I think once you hit 35,000 feet or so, the turbojets kicked in and you would quickly reach altitudes of 200,000 feet and higher. I think I have a film but the old films arent compatable with AH2

Did someone say Bell X-1 ?

No, but F-86, F-84, F-80, F9F-5, F3D and MiG-15 might be reasonable clues....

There was no "ceiling" before. The game simply stopped processing air densities and whatnot at 50,000 feet. Above that was simply "more of the same" and all TAS and other computations stopped. The aircraft really can't get that high without wind assist, but they CAN get that high, and it was a glaring flaw in the game engine. I'm glad they put enough thought into it to extend it way up to 100,000 feet. Mind you, nothing could go up that high, really.
Now that the atmosphere extends higher, is there a point when your plane is just stressed beyond use and explodes, now? Something where TAS is way high and IAS is well below stall, or something?

90,000 is were the 163 falls off ...
But the Dive from there is killer ,,,Can you say Mach 1 Muhahahahaa .

"Hmmmmm" and I thought it was to give the Ta152 a small chance in CT.
perhaps we can look forward to a "perked" G suit.... maybe could use bomber perks to get.......
:aok

as much money as I have paid these guys, even back when $2 an hour resembled monthly bills in excess of $300, for YEARS......they should give me a X-1 to tool around in. Hell, I deserve it. They OWE me an X-1!
HAHA!!
A F86 and a Mig 15 would certainly be cool :D

Hahaha lmfao dum dum dum.... now we will really have "astronaut bombers" uh oh watch out.

The "new vehicle" for the next convention is going to be the helium balloon used in Project Excelsior, allowing players to recreate that effort:
Project Excelsior on 16 August 1960, Joseph Kittinger achieved the record for the longest free-fall jump of 4 minutes and 36 seconds and the fastest maximum speed of 614 mph (982 km/h), before opening his parachute at around 18,000 feet (5,500 m).[2] Kittinger started the jump from a specially constructed balloon at an altitude of 102,800 feet (31,300 m), which also qualified him for the highest balloon ascent and highest parachute jump.
See, all makes sense now.
