Title: AH crashes to desktop
Post by: newguy2 on February 16, 2001, 01:50:00 PM
Hi all,

Just tried AH for the first time and I can't get by the video setup screen. The only video card that shows up on the screen is (primary display driver). No matter what combo of screen size or bit size I try it dumps right back to the desktop. Running a ABIT KT7, Asus v7700 Geforce2 pure 32mg with the newest drivers (6.31) and a AMD 1.2G CPU. This is a new system and only the Asus v7700 and a nic card are on the motherboard. Any ideas?

Thanks

You might want to try directx 7.0a (4.07.00.0716) It's worth a try.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

At this point, you should get the latest version, which is DirectX 8.0a:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=27398 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=27398)

Also, those are not the latest drivers.  The latest WHQL are 6.54, and there are 7.52's out now.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/Drivers.htm (http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/Drivers.htm)

Ok...Dx 8a installed 7.52 installed still crashes back to the desktop. Got to a black screen before the dump back this time. Is there something about the KT7 or V7700 AH may not like? The only other 3d game I've got is Soldier of Fortune, which did work before all the new installs :> ehheheehhe

I'm running the same video card as you, no problems at all (original drivers, DX7.0a).  My m/b is an Asus A7V tho.....

try deleting your video configuration file. it's called video.cfg, and on my machine it's here:

C:\games\Aces High\settings

Well I'll be damned:> I know why it didn't work, no sound card hahaha. I just got around to putting it in. New question, what should I use for the video setting in the setup video thing?

That kinda depends on your monitor.

You have the horsepower, so if you have the monitor try 1600x1200 32 Bit color.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Downgrade the resolution if your monitor is smaller than 19" or so, or if it won't do high resolutions.  (Mine wont)  If you get down to 1024x768 or so because of your monitor, try turning on FSAA in your vid card's advanced properties.  Pump that as high as you can and still get good performance.
