Had a close encounter with the tornado that hit Haltom City today. We had just passed through where it was about to hit on the way back from Harris hospital in downtown Ft Worth about 5 minutes before hand. We pulled in to the station and watched it pass just to our south. It got my attention to say the least. Looks like Haltom took a beating from the news reports as did many other places in its path out to east Texas.

Glad you're safe.

Glad you're okay. A friend from Texas (DFW area) posted this last night on another forum:
Trying to get home from work tonight and get under cover before the big storms hit DFW.... and I didn't make it.
Just as I made my exit, it went from not even raining to golf-ball sized hail... and there I sat in a Voodoo Blue FJ with paint prone to chipping and that already has a cracked front windshield.
All I could do was whip into a parking lot and crawl up on an island under a medium sized tree. Spent 5 very long minutes listening to that sickening sound of ice beating the crap out of my FJ (the windshield impact noises are especially stomach-churning)
I tried to make another run for it but got driven back under the tree when the hail returned with a vengeance. Got to do an ice donut in the parking lot, though!
Won't know for sure until the morning- but I think the FJ came out O.K. I could only find one roof dent in the dying sunlight. Boy, it sure is covered with leaves and tree branches though....
Stupid Friday the 13th!

(You'll have to copy/paste the photo URL above into a browser address bar to see the golf-ball sized hail stones)

We only have hurricanes to worry about here, but sometimes tornados spawn inside hurricanes.
Tornados scare me. Hurricanes without tornados don't at all.
Glad you are safe.

I have to admit it was kind of scary here in DFW last night
Slash.. you're local?

That's what you get for being so snug up against OK.
Glad to see you made it out ok Slash. Tornados are one of the things that mosts puts the fear of God in me. Only lightning is worse for me.

A man died in Ft. Worth across the street from where my cousin works.

Late posting to this, but we had one the same day in my lil podunk town north of Ft. Worth. It was less than a mile from my store. Heard the Tornado siren and made everyone go to the milk cooler (our tornado shelter). People were actually complaining about going in the cooler.
"It's cold in there!"
"Lady, you stay out here and tell me what it looks like when the roof blows away."
Luckily, nobody was hurt.

He was in his PnG tree stand tracking 3 immature trollwhiners. He was about to harvest one when the storm hit and his tree stand was ripped loose and sent flying. He was breifly spotted by a large pile of debris but then the hail set in. After the storm passed all that was found was a soaked pack of Marlboro Lights and a cordless beard trimmer.
