Title: Depth Perception
Post by: Martyn on April 14, 2007, 03:20:05 PM
I love the new terrain and detail changes you've guys have made. The beaches, roads, towns and trees are much improved. TY. Must have take a lot of work.

Depth perception is an issue though - as we've only got a 2D picture to play with.

I heard that to improve the depth perception (the greens _are_ a bit mono-tint now) I heard that you increase blue (increasing brightness a little too) with distance. Don't know if that'll help.

Also, I ran a Panzer IV into a windmill and did the most spectacular somersaults - through houses, upside down, flying, wheeeeeeee.

I guess there's a glitch there somewhere.

I lowered my gamma I think it was. Made everything brighter but depth is still and issue. I keep running into the water

Hopefully it'll be back to "normal" next patch.

I think contrast drops, brightness increases and blue (cyan maybe?) is increased with distance. If the renderer just adds light blue with distance then that may help to depth perception.

Mind you - I got this from an artist, not a computer-type-nerdy-person thing.

But that would be an monitor adjustment right? I like my monitor settings. I dot want to have to readjust every time I play

No - it's nothing to do with the monitor. These colour changes occur with distance, so have to be built into the renderer.

If you picture a flat field - the same colour 'grass' - the closer end is darker than the distant end but from above it's all the same colour because it's all the same distance.
