This Is MY WISH!
The F6F-3 was essentially "right", so the succeeding F6F-5 was a litttle more than a product-improved f6f-3 with a redesigned and closer-fitting engine cowling strenthened airframe, flat windscreen, spring -tab ailerons, and improved fighter-bomber capability with 2 1000ilb (454kg) bombs or 11.75in (298mm) "tiny tim" rockets and 6 5in (127mm) rockets.
The first F6F-5 flew in april 1944, and production totaled 7868 aircraft including 1432 f6f-5N night-fighters with radar and in later aircraft, 2 of the machine guns were replaced with 20mm cannon. Under the terms of lend-lease act,the UK recieved 930 F6F-5 and F6F-5N fighters, for service as F.MK II. The F6F-5N was built with a 3cm radar, showing to good effect the overall midnight blue paint scheme.
OK so why don't we have the varient with the 2 20mm cannon and 4 50's? and or the ord option for the tiny tims? I wish this would get into play. We have how many different F4U's????
Be a gent and fix this bad boy up for us CV fighting Squads!

We have no night. There for there is no need for night fighters.
But it would be kool if we had night!:aok

use the 110 then

What is with all the Night Fighter threads lately? Have they played this game online much at all?
No night. No on-board radar sets. No ground radar operators telling you what altitude, speed, and course the enemy is at you are trying to intercept. No very early generation night vision in game (like A-26A or Black Widow's).
And night would be easily negated by gamma adjustment by other players. You end up in a lower performing, often heavy, plane against all the current LW, low-ENY crop that can see you just fine.
I know this is "wishlist", I just find these requests a bit odd based on the reality of the game's set up.

See it's not about night or day its about the aircraft, alot of F4U's whats wrong with someone wanting maybe a cannon F6F? you guys are way to uptight. relax a bit its a game. try to have fun.

If there's something not in the game, then there's a reason for it being not in the game.
Two reasons essentially; and one is that HTC didn't work on it yet.
Guess what two is.

And AGAIN thats why this is called a WISHLIST. If they do or if they don't put it IN a game no matter. Just thought it would be nice to have that option for the plane.

If they modelled the cannon armed Hellcat, they would also have to model that dirty great radar on the wing. I'd guess the extra drag and weight would knock 10-20mph off the speed and screw the handling a fair bit.
I know HTC taken the radar off the 110G but the Luftwaffe did fly it that way sometimes. As far as I know, the USN and USMC did not fly the cannon armed Hellcat in combat without the radar fitted.

Truthfully there is no place in AH (as currently configured) for any of the night fighters.
The F6F-5 was however designed to accept the 2 x 20mm load out right from the factory. This was universal and every F6F-5 could accept the 20mm package. It was originally configured as a 2 x 20mm, 4 x 50 cal fighter but during the combat testing phase of development it was decided to maintain the 6 x .50 cal instead. The N & P models were equipped with the 2 x 20mm option. In addition the 2 x 20mm loadout was used more and more operationally in the pacific in 1945. All F6F-5's delivered for british service (879?) were equipped with the 2x20mm loadout as well.
The 20mm armed US version saw combat in both the pacific and in france in 1944 in support of the invasion of southern france in Aug 1944. VOF-1 flew more then 50 combat sorties on "D-day" and was operational for 2+ weeks claiming credit for 6 german planes.
The 20mm option for the F6F-5 was the same as the F4U-D in the sense that no special modification or "field engineering" was required.
