The perk-point system is very narrow in my opinion. I feel that shooting down a plane isnt the only way you should be able to earn perks. Maybe being within 5k of a base that had gotten captured, you could get a certain amount of pp. You might have guarded an m3, drove fighters away from the town being captured, or spotted tanks for a fellow team-mate. There are many things that you should have gotten credit for and didnt but this could change the way the game is played. It would make players play for the good of the country, not just shooting down other planes.

It would reward people just hanging around enemy bases which are about to fall. So I would expect to see a bit more hoarding...
The program can't decide wether you "did something for your country" or were just flying around. The only thing the program can determine is: Did you kill somebody or did you blow up stuff.

As I don't fly many perk rides --- except the occasional Me262,....and no decent buffs to spend a couple thousand buff perk points on (now, or in the foreseeable future),.....and even Tigers are cheap now.....
Can't agree. The perk system works well enough. Tiger may be hindered by unperked Sherman's killer gun, but may not be as players learn to deal with it.
My only complaint with perk system is there is no additional perk-worthy buff in the game... and there is a reason the Arado is the least flown plane in the game by buff drivers.
To award perk just because you were "in the area", and "might have done something useful at some point", puts me in mind of the way the Army award medals and ribbons like candy these days.... cheapens the award. Besides, that would be a whole new set of code that could be better used time and resources for new planes, new maps, and tweaking the graphics further since the new version.
You want to earn fighter perk points?
Take a high ENY plane up, in a country that is not dominating in player numbers to get a better perk modifier, and get a few kills.... then land them. If you fly low ENY planes in the country with the most players, you aren't going to get many perks per sortie.
