HT mentioned this online, but I just now got around to trying it...for my PIII 800, instead of using a pre-set "800(133)".. I changed the multiplier to manual in the bios, using 124 with multiplier of 6.0 (744) and I went all week-end with no lockups, even with SBLIVE panel, and others back ground apps on.
Thks Hitech.

So... you had to underclock your system to get stability?
That don't sound quite right. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/confused.gif)

Sounds like either your ram or some other component like video was running out of spec and can't handle it. Could be a flaky or mis-marked stick of ram.
At 133, what were your PCI and AGP devices running at? Just wondering. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hmm, thats greek to me Leph, how do I check?
My local guru (friend) says he thinks its the MB and the Slotket adapter I use for hte Abit VA-6 I'm using...not sure.
My RAM is PC-133, 128megs.
Incidently, no FR drop what so ever running at 744 rather than 800.
-
Rip beg steal or borrow another stick of QUALITY pc133 ram. Try it as it sounds like a flaky ram module.
-
Rgr that, thks for reply guys. My 512meg of PC-100 wasn't compatible with the 800EB, so I picked up 128 meg of PC-133, planning to double that with the price of ram being about $45/128 meg!
-
Rip how loaded is your power supply??
May have a low voltage prob. just a thought.
-
Hiya,
Just an update, I added another 128 megs of ram (total 256), boosted bios back to 800(133) and everythings fine. Think I had one lock up since (in weeks?) but I had some background apps running that day...
-
Rip, I had the same with my p800.
I had a viper 32meg card, had to switch to
g-force-32 meg.
I can run my cpu at any speed now with no freeze ups.

Cool Sax! Yeah, no probs here anymore, very pleased. Next year when the 1.4 gig (pick your brand) are cut in half for price, I'll upgrade again.
