I think my poor little computer is not long for the world, or at least the HD. On boot up I got the message that the drive was bad and failure was imminent, backup data. I'm assuming it was the boot HD and neither of the other 2. Everything that I need to maintain was copied. I guess I need to get serious about a replacement pretty quick.
Has anyone seen this kind of error message before?

Yeah its dying had a PC start saying that back in about august of 01 it lasted through to june 02 though. Just the same I would back everything up.

if its a Dell shut it down, press the power button and immediately start pressing F12, when you get to the menu look for on board or hdd diagnostics and press the corresponding number. It will give you a message stating the diagnostics are running please wait. It will also give you a HDD model code, Write it down and when the test is done it may give you an error code 1-8. Write that down as well and call Dell at 1 800 624 9896 and enter your express service code (all numeric code on a sticker on your system) and have it replaced if its under warranty. Normally youll get an error code 7 which is a read write error. If its not a Dell call your computer mfg and ask them if they have a diags you can run and see if its under warranty and if so run the diags and replace if it fails!

Not a Dell. It's a clone I built over 4 years ago. The HD is even older as it came from a computer I built 2 or 3 years before that. I guess I got my moneys worth from it. Bummer it had to be my boot drive. Even worse that money is so tight right now or I'd build another.

Time to start shopping for new drives. TigerDirect and newegg are a couple good places to find a cheap one.
