Ever since I downloaded the new service pack for windows, I am no longer able to watch videos on windows media player. As soon as they open my computer freezes, and I have to control alt delete out of it. However, I am able to listen to MP3's through the player. Any ideas whats up or what I can do?

Whenever I've had problems like this, it's been a matter of downloading and installing a particular codec.
If you can't get it to work, have you considered WinAmp? http://www.winamp.com

Just run a system restore to a time before you had the problem. If your using McAfee or Norton AV you may have to reinstall these programs after the system restore. Try that or you can just uninstall and reinstall the Win Media Player program from add remove programs then go to windows components and uncheck WMP. Then just download and install the latest version of WMP.

make sure you have the latest version WMP

I use WMP 9 and have no issues. Then again, I only use PowerDVD for videos. But, I can watch videos on WMP if I choose.

Cav, Cancel that first fix on the system restore. Just remove wmp from add remove programs and windows components and then reinstall the new version by downloading it from microsoft.

My computer wont let me do a system restore prior to April 1st 2007? What sucks about that is, April 1st 2007 is the day it started screwing up

Do *not* download Window Media Player 11...it looks nice and a few cool features but way too hard to do simple things like before.
I ended up uninstalling it after 1 week...having gone 6 months without installing it.
