I've seen a number of questions about this, but no answers that help me. AH locks up on me after about 3 minutes of play. I'm running a PIII 450, with 128 MB RAM, and a TNT2 M64 card.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks.

S!
If You are using RogerWilco(RW),then try to set the recording to Wave from DirectSound recording(Configuration in RW).It helped with my lock-ups.
Another thingy is to upgrade to newest, prefreably official,nVidia Detonator drivers found at www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com) or www.reactorcritical.com (http://www.reactorcritical.com) After that,if You are not already using it,try out DirectX 8.0a.Even the Dx 8.1 Beta 1 is out there, but wouldn't recommend it yet.
Another easy way to troubleshoot is to shut off all programs that U don't need from the background before launching AH.AH needs resources,so give it them (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
If You are experiencing disappearing buildings etc. from distance below 1000yds,then disable Z-Buffer from AH's Video Setup.Helped a lot of ppl here.
I hope this helped some (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Your system might be overheating as well. You might try running it with the case off.

Thanks for the advice, but...
I don't use RogerWilco, I definitely have the Detonator3 drivers, I'm about 90% certain I have the latest DirectX drivers (I'll look into it, though), and I always, ALWAYS kill every program in the close program window except explorer and systray before I play ANY game.
I'm not really seeing any buildings dissapear, the game just freezes on me. And this is after I have logged in and joined a H2H game (haven't tried the regular game, yet.)
My system has not once ever had an incident of overheating, and it works perfectly upon an immediate reboot, anyway. Nothing's overclocked, and my graphics card isn't that powerful.
My first inclination was that it might have to do with me being behind a firewall, but if I can connect to a game and even play in it for a few minutes then that couldn't be the problem, right? Or am I wrong?
I do really appreciate the responses I've got, but I think my problem has yet to be solved. ;^)
Thanks again,
Parison

First of all, you need to try playing the game offline. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Wether it works or not, it will give us more information to go on.
Second, do you have any IRQ conflicts? From the Start menu choose Run, and in the box type "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and hit enter. Now on the left side hit the + beside Hardware Resources, and then select the Conflicts/Sharing folder. If anything shows up in there, list it here for us. You might try this.
Back up your registry.
Exit to DOS
Type in SCANREG/FIX at the prompt.
After it rebuilds. Type in SCANREG/OPT.
They WIN to take you back to windows.
I do this whenever I start getting screen freeze. My system will work fine until the next time my wife gets her hands on my computer.

Lephturn, I have tried in offline mode, and the same thing does happen. Here's what I have in the Conflics/Sharing information (I'm going to abbreviate the entries since I don't feel like typing them all out):
IRQ9 SBLive sound card
IRQ9 Intel PCI to USB Universal host controller
IRQ9 IRQ holding for PCI steering
IRQ10 Dlink PCI adapter (network card)
IRQ10 IRQ holding for PCI steering
IRQ11 NVIDIA TNT2 graphics card
IRQ11 IRQ holding for PCI steering
IRQ14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
IRQ14 Intel PCI bus Master IDE controller
IRQ15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
IRQ15 Intel PCI bus Master IDE controller
I'd like to point out that this doesn't happen in any of the (many) other games that I play.
easymo, I'll try your suggestion out in a bit, and see how it goes.
Thanks again for the help.

You wouldn't happen to be using a USB joystick would you? Your soundcard and USB controller are sharing an IRQ. I'd suggest moving your soundcard to irq 5 if it is free. Other than that it looks pretty good. (I take it you don't have a modem in your system?)

If you have any USB device, you are going to have erratic system behaviour.
The SBLive card simply cannot share an interrupt with any other device that is being used. Move the SBLive card to a slot that has its own IRQ and that will solve your problem.

Well, I don't have any USB devices hooked up, but I'll try to move the SBLive anyway to see if that helps.
[EDIT] I just tried to adjust the IRQ of both the SBLive card and the USB controller, but can't move either. Guess I'm stuck on that account. But wouldn't it still be the case that if I was having problems there, it would show up in other games and not just Aces High?

If you are not using any USB devices, go into the BIOS setup on your machine at boot up and disable the USB controller. That will leave your soundcard on it's own IRQ.
Aces High tends to put a lot of stress on a computer. Most times folks that only have a problem with Aces High still end up solving it by sorting out some other system problem. For example, some folks that were overclocking their systems had to turn them down a few notches to play AH and have it stable.

Several of us have been experiencing lockups in AH. I don't think it is an individual problem.
-
A lot of us have been having screen lockups lately. Doesn't seem to be a individual problem.
-
Thanks for all the help, but interestingly enough, the problem just went away and I was able to play. I didn't change anything, it just kind of fixed itself I guess.
Oh well, at least I can play now.
Thanks again for the help.

usarmy,
I've been providing support in the TA and on these boards for quite a while. While there are a few cases we haven't been able to solve, I think the vast majority of the folks who have had "lockup" problems have been able to solve it with help from myself and others on this board. So far it has been other system issues almost every time.
If you are having lockup problems, start a new thread and give us all your system details. I'm sure we can help.

The fact that most of us are playing without lockups means that the lockups are most likely due to hardware. AH has never locked up on me. (I've been playing since beta tour 1.) I think I've been booted to the desktop about 5 times in this 1.5 year time.

I have been running smooth the whole time I have been here....well other than the very beginning when I was using an AMD 550 mhz with on board video. Was pulling a whopping 5 fps!!! Awesome!! I had 5 discoes this month but I attribute that to the fact that Northpoint was turning off their network. They all happened in one night. Up and running on Swbell ADSL and having no problems at all.

Had a sever case of the lockups when i
first started AH. It happened when i moved
from Voodoo 3 to geForce 2 MX. My card performed well in all my other games.
(CFS, CFS2, Janes WW2 fitrs, EAW) however
it wouldnt make it 5 minutes in AH. I
did the whole 'current driver' thing but i
suspect my power supply was the culprit.
Had a 250watt, installed a 300 watt.
Havnt had a single problem since. May
be worth the 45 bucks to update to a 300watt
if you havnt got 1.
