I was bored with the current explosion so I decided to change it.I could have posted a video to show how fluid it is but didn't, maybe later.

I replaced the original 25 textures with 33 new.

i created a new explosion affect too... it was confetti and streamers, a la Rip Taylor... but i dont think that HT would aprove it

Hehe jk, i probably will post them, after i finish other effects.
You can save default textures in TE.
And it seems to be limited to only 25 files( not counting alpha textures).

Yeah, I found the textures too now. Was hoping to change fire around, yet then I saw just how beautiful it was. It's just the animation loop and trying to make a 2-D shape 3-D that makes it look bad.

Looks awesome..I tried something similar in Aces High 1, using some of my smoke effects I made for AirWarrior. Will you have a download for us to try it out?

Edited the water effects.Ah was using 32x64 bitmaps , i changed the effect and it's in 256x256 bitmap.Again only limited to 12 frames.

I will post a zip file with effects soon, but you will only be able to build them in your terrains.

You should submit them to HTC. Most likely they will be accepted since you're saving them hours of work. Also after our opinions on the affects come in about any performance related issues it's even more probable that they will be accepted..

I suggested he submit them to HTC for the exact reason of having them in-game anytime anywhere in any terrain.

I only wonder how much these textures effect to the .res file size over the regular textures.

A change from 32x64 bitmaps to 256x256 bitmaps sounds like quite a big change, but I suppose it wont make such a difference in e.g. H2H maps.

With current 3 new effects, res is about 1 mb.
There is absolutely no fps hit or and kind of stuttering,which is great.;)

Based on what, though? H2H? Offline? A single vehicle firing into the water?
Hardly a test for what would be online in a Main Arena... especially near a CV battle with lots of low planes and ack and a thousand splashes.

I was testing it on a machine that was old 4 years ago, radeon 9200, 256 ram, 1800 mhz.
It was on a map full of costume objects,and frame rates were low as is ( about 23-25), with ack firing.I would notice the fps change when firing.;)

AFAIK, the DT does not explode, but instead shatters and sprays the gasoline around.. kinda wet steamy cloud.. or something like that :)
In any case it does not do any damage in the game.

I know that, just the problem is that DTs and Bombs have the same explosion effect in game:)

Hyster, already mentioned, read this ENTIRE thread, you will find it. Besides, it's for map makers only. Haven't seen you around before so I'm not too sure if you're a map maker. And rest assured, you will see these effects popping up soon enough in terrains all over the place.

yes im new and im not a mapper but everyone has to start somewhere so any help would be usefull.
Besides, it's for map makers only.
if this is an exclusive club for the elite ill leave u to it.
one thing ive always been good at is working things out.all i need is a little help to get me looking in the right place and ill figure the rest out. in previous games ive played ive modded weapons to fire 1,000,000 rpm instead of 600. grenades that will kill anything that can c the nade and get characters to use the wrong skins.
i can use a 3d modeling program to make effects like flames and explosions so i thought it might be fun to have a crack at it.

I don't think Denholm meant any disrespect or he may have been having a bad day.
The textures must be built into a terrain. You can't simply save them to a folder in the game and expect them to work.
If you are interested in making terrains there is a wealth of information in this area of the board. Including where to save the textures to build them into a terrain (about a million times).

No disrespect meant, just the majority of people who stop by here and it's below their 50th post usually aren't too excited about starting, so I was referring to you as if you would not start terrain editing.
I myself have made a few tutorials on how to generate terrains using the Terrain Editor. Just one notice, it teaches you how to build terrain, it just doesn't teach you how to make an MA accepted grade terrain. It's only designed to get you started, and for 95% of users it has done just that. So I think you will be able to put this tutorial to good use.

Also, to answer your question. As you progress in learning the TE, you realize that you have to make a folder known as "texsrc" in your terrain's directory. These files go in there, and once you "built" the terrain, they will have been embedded into the terrain's .res file and will be playable by anyone using that particular terrain.

When I tried to download your explosions pack on the website sited in "Tree Pack #4", it always stops downloading before it is done. The largest file I've been able to download is 900KB. I tried turning off me firewall, and it still won't download it all. I also noticed that clicking on the two Winter Pine files brings up an "About Us" page instead of a downlaodable file (does the same for the "rain arena settings"). Any reasons? Or is me computer just outdated beyond repair?

PS: The exact error, if this helps, is it says there are no files to extract. However, when I open it with WinRar, there are a lot of files in it. The most I've been able to get are 102 files, which I had to 'repair archive' to be able to extract. I also noticed that all the normal water explosions (the ones without _a on the end of the number) are just blank gray pictures. Does anybody out there know what could cause this? But of the ones I can see, they are great!

I am sorry for that, but i am running on a free server, which is sometimes obviously buggy.
Try repeating the download until you see you have downloaded the whole file.Whole file size for the effects.zip is 1.13 MB.
About blank gray pictures, they are actually white, because the _a files are the ones that will give the shape to the effect, those files without _a are just for effect color.
I have taken down snow pine trees from site, but forgot to make changes in index.htm

I think your free server's a bit more than buggy, I've downloaded 50+ times, and never gotten more than 906 KB. So close, but so far away. And as for your "rain arena setting" (for DLake map), it brings up the same thing the winter pine files do, an about us page. Did you take it down too, or is your free server just really messed up? By the way, great maps! And tree packages.

I remember editing the water/splashes for my Hell map for h2h years ago. Been a while.
I don't think HiTech would approve of them simply because 256x256 is much much larger than they presently are. They may not hurt your FR for that size terrain in H2H. But in the MA you have skins (with resolutions of 512x512 or 1024x1024) and many more players to contend with. If you reduced the size to 128x128 it would reduce the download size by 1/4 and there would not be a major loss in quality.

Unfortunately Dhyran this is stuff croduh has worked on himself and could only be used offline in customised terrains.
You won't be able to get them in the online arenas.
HTC could no doubt do something similiar but thats down to them to implement.
If you didn't know already the in-game skins and some of the MA maps are done by members of the community(for no fee). Of course HTC have to accept them based on the criteria that they set out.
