I didn't see United 93 when it was in theaters or released on DVD. I thought it was done too soon. It would be too painful and unpleasant to watch. But, now it's on HBO and I finally sat down to watch it. I have to say I was moved. It was done very, very well.
The film is docudramatic, but is done Jack Webb style...Just the facts. There's no narration, no editorial spin or message. Much of the dialog is the actual transcript of the events. Many of the roles in the film are played by the actual people speaking their own words on 9/11.
You can't help but come away with a sense of pride, patriotism and sorrow. I say this of very few films, but everyone should watch this movie. Show it to your children. Talk to them about the movie.
This is what it means to be an American.
to the passengers and crew of United 93.

RPM... too soon for me to watch just yet.
It would hurt.

it was difficult to watch. I didn't want to get wrapped up in a propaganda piece but I don't think this film was any of that. It just attempted to show how humans behave towards one another and in very difficult moments.
The only thing that made me wonder was the portrayal of the one European passenger and how he was almost violent in his belief that the terrorists should be appeased, even after finding out that other planes were being flown into building. I had a hard time believing that.

Hmm… ;)

I thought it was done with a very even hand.
Mac, I understand and felt the same way until it was over. It made me re-experience some of the feelings I had on 9/11 and I think that was important. Confusion, anxiety, disbelief, WTF is going on, anger, pride.
Lest we forget what it means to be an American.

I agree. Just hurts a bit to relive the times.
I have all those emotions just thinking of 9/11.

More than a bit, but the response from the passengers after they learned what was happening will make you proud. It's what we are all about.
-
Got it. 30 minutes on Bee Tee. :furious

Of the four aircraft hijacked that day, United 93 was the only one that didn't reach it's target. There were no survivors.
-
RPM I'll give it a shot. If it seems to be propaganda then it's off...if the words "Micheal Moore" appear then it's off.

The last thing you would think about is Michael Moore.

Watching it now, pretty good movie, dragged a bit in the middle. What's with the F16 pilots says they could only "damage" the plane with 20mm? Certainly you can bring down an airliner with 20mm. I tried it in Lomac or something.
-
20mm would no doubt bring down an airliner, not sure what that was about.
-
I saw Oliver Stone's World Trade Center in the weekend...I thought that was a good show, cracker start - although once the buildings collapse the pacing slows somewhat...

I just happened to pick up a book published by the Air Force on 9/11 in the library that explained this. The F-16s were only carrying 20mm training rounds.

No desire to see it at all.

Superb performances by all the cast,|I actually thought they might pull it off even though I new the outcome.Straight story telling no flag waving just the facts,Hollywood at it's best, you should be proud of the makers and the passengers.

Training round? Blanks, Lazers, Rubber bullets?

No.....the training rounds are basically just a normal slug as opposed to HEI (High Explosive Incendiary) rounds that a plane would carry on a normal combat mission.

Bodhi, the movie is a memorial. It is not a cheap hollywood chick flick, this film pays a POWERFUL tribute to people just like you and I who found themselves in a immensely tragic situation. Just my opinion but see the film if you can. It is well worth it to shed a few tears for those souls lost.

Roger that rpm very painful. My wife was in the army at that time and was sent to Pentagon to help with the cleanup. She came home with stories of feet still in boots with no legs and the smell of burning flesh on her.It was a sad time in our countries history.I now work at the Pentagon and get to see the memorial built for the 187 gov't workers who died there. It scares me becuase I am thinking what and where will the next attack be.It will be on a much bigger scale.
