Wow. Incredible piece.
1) It's pertinent for today; and, regardless of your point of view, you'll find yourself drawn to serious deliberation.
2) VERY well written.
3) Informative -- you'll learn something you don't know
4) Give a whirl -- the discussion afterwards could indeed be substantive.

And there's way cool stuff about Francis Key and a marvelous Madison quote that I didn't know. This is one of the best things I've read on the web in ages. It can be dismissed by some no doubt, but the author's tone and the matter at hand invites us to ponder beyond the casual jibe and cheap shot.

1st American foreign war -- War v Muslims . . . tribute and bounty . . . Marines and Navy of a very new nation . . . 1.5 million American's and Brits enslaved by Muslims (give or take some) . . . heroes of the new American nation . . . Kipling . . . one of the earliest references in writing to the "United States" . . . early source of the National Anthem . . .
And that doesn't do it justice. I feel like I'll cheat readers from having the experience for themselves. It's so good, ignore what I just wrote and give it a go :aok

Yes thanks, I did read through topical sentences of the paragraphs. Its late Im off to the hay. I have heard of the Barbary wars through my intellectual travels but I was unaware Islam was anywhere in the equation.
How do you see this playing into the current involvements in the middle east?
Will get back tomorrow
